Potentially catastrophic storm! Biggest Hurricane recorded! According to wind probability charts at NOAA Barra Navidad has a slightly greater percentage than P. Vallarta. [link to www.nhc.noaa.gov] The weather channel today showed how a cat 5 does 500 times the damage of a cat 1. There is not such a thing as a cat 6, just cat 5 for any winds over 157 mph. Winds expected to be 205 at landfall which is equivalent to a tornado. |

(from nbcnews.com link) Wonder if we'll be hearing from Ms. Rebholz any more ... does she realize her hotel was not designed for 200mph winds? Anyway I guess "they" need more evidence to get their stuff pushed thru at next month's Paris climate summit. |

Potentially catastrophic storm! Biggest Hurricane recorded! <10% of article below: Quoting: Anonymous Coward 49207205 At 4 a.m. CDT, the eye of Hurricane Patricia was about 160 miles (255 kilometers) south-southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico, and was moving north-northwest at 12 mph (19 kph). In addition to its unprecedented 200-mph (320-kph) sustained winds, Hurricane Patricia now holds the record for lowest pressure in any hurricane on record. With a minimum central pressure of 880 millibars (25.99 inches of mercury) at the 4 a.m. CDT advisory, Patricia broke the record of 882 millibars set by Wilma almost exactly 10 years ago. [link to www.weather.com] What does having "low pressure" do to a hurricane? does it make it stronger? Yes. Low pressure = storms. High pressure = clear sunny days. The lower that millibar number the more intense the storm will be. In his poem Human Pride, Marx admits that his aim is not to improve the world, reform or revolutionize it, but simply to ruin it and enjoy it being ruined: With disdain I will throw my gauntlet full in the face of the world, And see the collapse of this pygmy giant whose fall will not stifle my ardor. Then will I wander godlike and victorious through the ruins of the world And, giving my words an active force, I will feel equal to the Creator. “Looking for consciousness in the brain is like looking in the radio for the announcer.” – Nasseim Haramein, Director of Research for the Resonance Project |

The lower the pressure the greater the storm strength, the center eye of the Hurricane with the spin causing the lower pressure the water actually rises or is lifted in the center, could be a few feet or many. Once the Hurricane hits land that water moved along with the hurricane can then be dumped inland and cause wide scale flooding along with all other aspects of the cyclone. |

Potentially catastrophic storm! Biggest Hurricane recorded! For those saying that Hurricane Patricia won't do anything...not only did she break a record by going from a tropical storm to a MAJOR category 5 hurricane in 24 hours, she's one of, if not THE STRONGEST, on record! Her maximum SUSTAINED winds are 200 mph!! Let me put this in perspective...an EF5 tornado, the mother of all tornadoes, is categorized as a tornado with wind speeds above 200 MPH!!! And that's her SUSTAINED wind speeds...gusts could be much higher! Please pray for the people of Mexico and Texas!! Quoting: BamaGirl73 Terrifying :( :( :( A tornado comes and goes in a short period. Hurricanes rip at one place for hours - combined with storm surge and rain. This is massively terrible and nobody can do anything to stop it. Maybe prayer will do something so I hope everyone does. People will never learn This is bad I think that would be the best plan even though the resorts are in the bulls eye of the storm they are most likely built the strongest compared to the rest of Mexico, unless there is a designated government hurricane shelter. Due to the slow speed of this hurricane it will take a long time to pass over the resort area. I would think up a few floors in a concrete building as the flooding might be high in the coastal areas, that being said with a Cat 5+ hurricane no structure may last this long event duration. Winds will start in one direction and once the eye passes over then will flow in the opposite direction, this is what usually takes down structures especially during a 10+ hour event, most I fear are now doomed in that landfall area!!! |

Potentially catastrophic storm! Biggest Hurricane recorded! Wow! And we are already getting tons of rain here in north Texas, 3 to 7 inches by Sunday. This storm will bring even more. And where did this storm come from? Nothing, then all the sudden... This storm did the unimaginable and went from a tropical storm to a Cat 5 in just over 24hrs time, unthinkable but most likely related to very warm waters and a very strong El Nino we are experiencing now. |

Wonder if the weather channel is going to place Jim Cantore in the path of the eye of this one? My mother lives near Chapala which is about 30 miles South of Guadalajara. It's a little over 5,000 feet in elevation. That will take a lot of the sting out of the hurricane. They're expecting maybe 40 mph sustained winds and 3 - 5" inches of rain. Mudslides might be their biggest problem. FU |
