Re: 'Transformational Festivals!' Music // Yoga // Meditation // Spiritual Workshops: Have you been?!
I've worked in the past for all these big festivals doing construction for set-up and take-down.

In 2012 I worked for one for five or six weeks on site.

The site was EPIC. Somehow the organizers convinced a native american tribe to let them throw it on their sacred site that is a preserve for eagles. It's covered with these amazing rock formations that are what all their tribes legends are focused on (and double as perches/homes to the eagles)

Behind the scenes it was a disgusting disaster.

The organizers are filthy rich, make no mistake about it. The "transformational" theme is a joke, even to them. It's just a "party scene" using enlightenment crap as a theme.

They paid the poverty ridden natives twenty bucks a day to pull up plants and destroy a massive portion of their own sacred site to make space for cars while the organizers sat around womanizing. These sexy festival chicks certainly appeal to the lower carnal energy centers, not the higher spiritual ones. Some of them get paid to literally rub the shoulders of the organizers and deliver them green smoothies.

The elders of the tribe had set some rules for the sake of honoring the land, and the moment the gates opened all the idiots pouring in broke every rule immediately. They were climbing on the fragile rock formations breaking them. Fucking and shitting in the open. They were getting wasted before they even parked their cars.

They always make it sound like there's going to be spiritual music on the flyer, and it always ends up revolving around bad electronica and gangster sounding shit. I can't say the organizers were involved with selling drugs like some on this thread have claimed. That's actually done by this whole subculture of gangster hippies. And when I say gangster hippies, it's no abstraction. They are a literal combination of the two. Basebal cap cocked sideways over dreadlocks spouting black/urban lingo. I've met a lot of them, and they're the lowest of the low- spending their lives travelling all your "festies" selling watered down drugs at a massive mark up.

By the time the event ended, the ground was covered with trash and human feces. The tribe was so demoralized that one man murdered another in all the infighting (the ones against allowing this had been outvoted). That land will never be the same, but the organizers all earned enough money to spend the rest of the year going on "spiritual" retreats to the amazon and such.

The hallmark of true wisdom is being willing to understand when you've been duped. If/when you realize the scam you're putting your money into, it will hurt at first, but will finally deliver the personal transformation the "festies" promised but never actually delivered.

That is fucking so screwed. It's impossible to control for everybody and of course you're gonna get assholes in that come to these huge festivals and are majorly disrespectful. But the real villain of that story is the people who put it on and should have known better.

I don't mean to sound like an advocate for the do lab but they were VERY strict about trash and stuff at LIB and people really really weren't cool with people trashing the site at all. I still smoked cigs back then and I couldn't even bring myself to throw one on the ground once. So I know there were probably assholes there who didn't give a shit but it was stunning to me how many good people there were who did.

What you describe makes me seriously depressed though.

I don't really trust the Do Lab anymore. I'm sure some promoters are a bit shady, but as long as they put together a good experience I'll be the first to appreciate it. I hope you're not talking about Lucidity Festival because they do use the land of the Indians. And I really respect that group of organizers. A lot more so than The Do Lab. But either way the people there are usually very respectful and 'pack in and pack out' all their trash usually. I mean compared to other festivals the place is kept much cleaner.

And these 'hippie gangsters' as you describe are usually respectful too. I wouldn't call them 'hippie gangster' but just more cool type of hippie or not even hippie at all, just cool, 'real'. I love how Lucidity even had some Hip Hop. But the best stuff I've heard in a while. Positive Hip Hop. I really think that festival has the best music selection and seems more 'real spiritual'.

i talked about going to burning man witha some friends.. we watched a couple videos and decided that was a place reserved for homosexuals, and people who over arch themselves to come off -enlightened or they make every single thing out to be something much more profound than it is, or they twist whatever experience they've had to fit some kind of progressive worldly agenda so it fits the politcal hive mind of those groups.

anytime something like this is commercialized and sold.. it loses something.

i'll stick to having my psychedelic journeys with close friends.

as for molly, and it's RC knock offs...
Is this something that's as new to you as these festivals?

MDMA is alright, i've never had it. but i've always thought of it as a party drug, not really something spiritually enlightening.

You should hunt and identify some wild psilocybes.. you can cheat and buy some.. but i think finding them yourself makes it a little more special. probably not by much though :)

Or LSD, it's more readily available in the US now more than ever. Right now it's also less likely to see an RC, than is was 2 years ago since they've all been made illegal also. Most of them are harder to make than LSD, and the process for ethylation of lsa is a little simpler now.

If an inside account of these festivals makes you depressed, you're probably pretty decent.
Notice how OP didn't care and said the destruction of sacred land and murder of a tribal member sounded fun?
"we all gotta party somehow" etc?
He just wants to get high as fuck with a bunch of half naked girls and pretend he's a wizard doing magic on the "danceflo".
The whole "transformational" thing is just a cover story for druggie bros, unfortunately.

I agree with you about Burning Man, thats why I never desired to go. Never sensed anything 'spiritual' about it.

And yes very 'gay' or 'bisexual' vibe

Yes, Molly is just as new to me as the festivals. First time I tried it was so awesome. Brought out the music like never before. Made my gf & I have deep connection. Then I never could find it as good again.

I actually did buy some ayuahuasca ingredients (which are totally legal to buy) but I always go extra light when trying anything and I haven't really felt any effects besides a slight mind opening effect.

I've done LSD a couple times, and do think it had some effects on opening my mind, consciousness. I really don't know anyone that I trust to get it from or mushrooms or else I'd probably try it again.

Wow I never said destruction of sacred land was ok! And I must've missed the part about a murder of a tribal member... I would never be ok with that. Can you please tell us about this murder?
Now I'm very interested...

I know a lot of these tribes make a lot of money off these festivals too so they are ok with them and support them. A lot of these festivals have 'permaculture' that plants a lot of new trees and improves the grounds that the festivals are held on. So sometimes the Indians are ok with clearing a bit of land and planting new trees. They usually don't 'clear' any land though or trample 'trees'. I know for a fact that a lot of these festival organizers are for real 'tree huggers'. They love the environment. And are trying to help.

At least I know thats how they feel at Lucidity festival.

I guess if everyone is shilling on the transformational festivals maybe they are the place to be. I already kinda sensed that. What could be wrong with doing yoga in the morning, dancing at night? Making close bonds with the people all around you. Its kind of hard to hate on that. All this talk about the organizers is all hear say. And each festival has a different group of organizers. But regardless, I come out of these things feeling energized and full of life!
