(Explicit Rant) Don't blast the guy who has two children by age 26. He's a hard working man taking care of his family, and that is a VERY commendable thing. I've worked for the government and gave it up because it made me so mad how they wasted tax dollars. Anyway, any time the government takes over doing something it becomes a total mess and expensive too. Years ago, when I started working in the 70's my insurance only cost me 90 cents a week for a 80/20 policy. I can't remember the deductible, but it wasn't bad. I was able to have an apartment, a car, and still had money left over to go out and have a good time. At this time, I didn't have a college education. See where I am going here . . . things are so much harder now for young people. I've had to help my daughter and her family just to get by. They are working so hard, but have no money left over even to buy each other birthday presents. I see the enormous stress young people face. I don't see how they can do it without family help. |

While you are correct and the system is LOUSY there are some methods to actually improve your coverage while lowering your premium. The key is the plan you choose. Without help you may do a cursory review thinking one sounds like the best deal when in reality a cheaper bronze plan would actually provide better coverage at a lower cost. I'm in the middle or re-certification training for this mess and in Texas.....I would suggest you contact a licensed agent (not an "assistor") to help you make the right choice in an obviously terrible set of options.
