The Quest of the Lone Gunslinger |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 67907468 Canada 10/29/2015 12:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The Quest of the Lone Gunslinger I am a 28 year old man, Old to some and young to others. The World has aged ten years while I slept. A lost decade. True, I've gained much; But I've also lost much. Many from my cultural heritage think of advanced years as an office in of itself, but I know the easiest thing in the world to do, is to simply age.
Life during this period has been one of experiencing the lowest rung of the social hierarchical ladder.
I've slept on the streets, spent months in jail, and years in a mental institution and in group homes.
There were some rough times - I was involved in my fair share of fights. Fights are serious involvements, you never know what the opponents have in mind. One bastard tried to gouge my eyes out, and another attempted to rip my mouth open. Also, I learned the hard way to keep on smashing your opponent in the face until they are knocked the fuck out. Don't stop to admire your handiwork, as it can prove costly.
I also learned to be more mindful of the words that came out of my mouth. For instance, a low-minded goon can take offense and seemingly out of the blue, start whaling on you when nobody is looking.
Even so, it was as safe an experience as could be had under the circumstances. I don't know whether to thank those responsible, or hate them for putting me in such a situation in the first place.
I had some degree of freedom in the beginning, but I could only construe those who put restraints on me as my enemies. So I was taught a lesson. I got sent to the school of hard knocks. This concurrently served as the foothold to transfer me to a mental institution, so that I could be edified regarding the true nature of my situation.
There were also some good times in the midst of this all. The best was in being able to have met a variety of good and decent people.
The funny thing is, when my tribulations were beginning, I actually welcomed the experience in one sense. In part, because I believed that one has to experience and be cognizant of the plight of the many who suffer, to be able to truly empathize with and come up with a solution. But more critically, I did not understand the serious gravity of the circumstances in which I was engaged.
I was a lone bright red cardinal in a world of sparrows. The difference now is that I know I am not the only one of my kind in existence.
I am still on my journey, but soon I shall arrive. Yet, it would be unwise to be too eager for the new phase, before having mastered and fully appreciated my current allotment in life. |

Pain is the most efficient teacher, just remember to learn your lessons so you dont have to repeat a grade. Your words will always be a solace, so take comfort in that and use them wisely. |

On our daily walk she inspects the neighbor's bush to confirm her suspicions that the birds have built a nest there. She sniffs the trees to see who has been there before her. Some days she meets other dogs, other days not. But all of the important things happen on the journey, none is at the destination. Free speech is never free.
