Quoting: Anonymous Coward 62470748 300-600 miles in diameter is a rock, not a fucking planet, dumbasses. "Astronomers have found the most distant object ever in our solar system, three times farther away than Pluto. The dwarf planet, which has been designated V774104, is between 500 and 1000 kilometers across. It will take another year before scientists pin down its orbit, but it could end up joining an emerging class of extreme solar system objects whose strange orbits point to the hypothetical influence of rogue planets or nearby stars." Prolly 10,000 miles in diameter Or even more considering that Earth's diameter is around - 12, 700 km. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 70678575 Canada 11/12/2015 01:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | An object at 103 AUs if it were to be sent toward the inner solar system would require a mere 10 years travelling at a nominal 100,000 MPH to reach the earth. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13232441 Hey you! Quit doing real math, dammit! That's forbidden here on GLP! We needs our false dooms! lol Earth travels a distance of just over 1AU in roughly 91.25 days. If this new found planet is traveling at an equal speed that the earth is, then 103au x 91.2days = 9,398.7 days.. Divide 9,398.75 by 365, you get 25.7 years... If it where roughly the same mass as earth, that is... Any larger and those timeframes increase. Suns and comets are the only objects that can travel "100,000mph".. Which is doubtful to begin with. |

C,mon man. You can't hide something like that & keep it quiet... I highly doubt that any backyard astronomers would have the equipment required to see beyond this newly found object in question. Especially considering that it is "103 times the distance of the sun to the Earth" away. Quote from original post --- "Though previous surveys have ruled out anything above the size of Saturn, there still could be a Neptune-sized world or a super-Earth (or even two) farther out, too dark and distant to detect" And as you stated ----- "2-3 times larger then Jupiter? C,mon man". Your the one saying that, not the poster you replied to, and if you had bothered to even click on the link and read the article, you would have discovered that they had touched upon the possibility of there being a "Neptune-sized world, or a Super-Earth (or even two), farther out, too dark and distant to detect". It sounds to me that you just jumped on this thread, and only bothered to read the title, neglected to even read the original post or click on the source. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 43094641 Canada 11/12/2015 03:02 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My only problem with this: Quoting: Anonymous Coward 53252739 They've now detected multiple planets with unexplained orbits. The likely culprit is Planet X. Okay. Can't we take the orbits of Sedna, and the 2 newly discovered objects, and find the location of Planet X? Why haven't they done it? My theory is that they know about Planet X, as it's the same that causes end of world in every religion, they just don't want to tell the public yet... So same as ETs... Waking people up slowly over time They've known for a long time. [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] Harrington died a suspicious and untimely death shortly after going public with it. Anonymous Coward User ID: 70452938 United Kingdom 11/12/2015 03:24 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The likely-dwarf planet adds to the mounting evidence of a dark super Earth at the outer boundary of our solar system. Quoting: Jaden Rose 70760481 There's a new most distant object in our solar system, and it strengthens the hypothetical case for an unseen large planet at the outer boundaries of our solar system. At 103 astronomical units out (or 103 times the distance of the sun to the Earth), this is the most distant object ever recorded, besting Eris, Sedna, and 2012 VP113. It also adds on to a case built on the discovery of the latter, whose unusual orbit points to the tug of a distant planetary-mass object. Though previous surveys have ruled out anything above the size of Saturn, there still could be a Neptune-sized world or a super-Earth (or even two) farther out, too dark and distant to detect. For now, though, this is just speculation that can't be ruled out. The object, V774104, was announced Wednesday at the American Astronomical Society's Division for Planetary Sciences meeting in National Harbor, Maryland. Scott Sheppard of the Carnegie Institute characterized the potential planet as between 300 and 600 miles in diameter... [link to www.popularmechanics.com] :ohlook: |
