I am still friends with people I met in this game and we all played other games together over the years, will have to inform them of this

I should mention that there are different types of experience and levels for characters: Combat, Exploration, and Trade. This was a little unique for the game.

so an explorer couldn't be combative?

I see on the character planner there is weapon systems for more than one class

How is this implemented? If you don't mind me asking...will help in my class choice

Oh, no, not at all. It is more like a series of leveled specializations. Tailored abilities and things like that. Everyone gets their hands dirty. :)

I'm grabbing the download myself, because I might be able to hop on there at some point.

I think I am settled on Jenquai Defender then.

Seems like they could be a little slow at first, but the balance fits my liking. Self healing, teleporting friends, good weapon choices, shielding, can build weapons and devices (no idea on these)...

I played it back in the day. I still have my install disc and key. I doubt I'll be playing it again though, it never did catch my attention for too long.

awesome, when you have the game installed you have to make a game account through the website login for you to be able to play, don't make an account through the game itll ask you for a registration key

EnB emu has been around awhile, last time I tried it it was buggy and largely incomplete, I'll have to hop back on and see how far they have come. There is also an emulator for the original Star Wars galaxies pre combat upgrade if anyone misses that.

I played them all, here's a basic break down for you based on my experience, but it is way more detailed then this

Progen PW/PS, Jenquai JD/JE, Terran TE/TT

3 races, each with a warrior and explorer/trader sub class, for 6 classes, each with own ship layout for 6 different ships

warrior ships (PW,JD,TE)had more weapon slots then explorer ships, with PW having highest armour and slowest ship

explorer ships (PS,JE,TT)had more equipment slots, and generally faster then warrior class ships, JE have the fastest ship plus have a nice ability to port around the galaxy, was very handy

each race was proficient in a certain weapon
P - railguns (medium range), J - laser (close range), T- missles (long range)

Max level was 150, broken down 3 ways - 50 levels each for combat/exploring/trade, exploring being the bitch to max out

but overall especially end game TE/TT were the most balanced classes and really fun to play, top notch firepower, speed, armour and shields

It looks like they changed some of the classes as there are only 6 choices in character creation.

Which I don't mind, the customization is still there, but got rid of the unnecessary classes/stream lined some things. Not a big deal.

Unless they are unlocked, but I doubt it.

If anyone creates a character in this game (and wants this), I can add it to a list for others so that everyone knows who's who.

I had a feeling you'd get a kick out of the ship customizations.

I managed to download the client and go through the quirky account registration. It's patching now. :)

Ah yes, the client executable is in the /release subdirectory of wherever you installed the game.

I'm on a pretty shit WiFi connection and had a bunch of CRC errors with files patching. It worked eventually, but not without a few retries.

I've probably run into the most issues that anyone could possibly have (that is to say, it should work good for almost anyone.)

What I've noticed is that certain NAT or proxy configurations can cause you to lose a connection to the server during character and ship creation. The remedy for this is to simply not take a long time... (easier said than done, right?)

It is probably highly unlikely that anyone will run into the same issues as me. :)

Expect a 1.1GB download and sizeable patch. Most people can get up and running in an hour or so.

The system requirements are pretty paltry. I'm managing to get by with a virtual instance of Windows 7 on a Mac.

I ran by you a few times in the station and in-sector. :)

That was me being a dumbass forgetting to equip a second laser and still attacking level 3s at level 0. :P

If you are an FPS-style player, I'd definitely recommend switching the control defaults to FPS mode and tweak them from there.

I'll add a few more things later as I log a few more hours.
