Discovery of legionella bacteria prompts temporary closure of Hannibal hotel in Missouri

Discovery of Legionella bacteria in the Best Western on the River Hotel in downtown Hannibal has prompted the temporary closing of the facility.
According to Ryan Hobart, director of the Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services, a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) team took 40 samples from the hotel on Nov. 10.
Ten days later the CDC contacted the Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services and reported that samples from four rooms were positive for Legionella bacteria.
On the evening of Nov. 20 Hobart says staff from the “local public health agency” and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services met with the hotel management to share the CDC's findings and request the hotel agree to close the facility effective immediately until such time as remediation occurs and further testing is satisfactory.
