Quoting: Anonymous Coward 140817we considered swimming, but she likes the team aspect more and can make more friends this way. We? What's this "we" shit? Um, you already had your high school life and it's over and done with. I sincerely hope that you will not turn your daughter into a crack-whore trainee and ruin her life by trying to live your life and dreams through your daughter. This is her life, and her life and alone, and she can choose whatever sport she is interested in or feels comfortable with. Choosing a sport based on how many potential friends you can make doesn't get it. Americanii-s de vina futu-i in gura sa-i fut |

For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. |

I read once that Princess Diana swam to keep in shape. Anyway...there is always your own best time to beat and then the best team times.....longer swims, short sprints, relays and if you are really into it water polo. There is diving....lots of team spirit and when our daughters were on the swim team, we could be timers and I learned turn and stroke judge. It can really be fun and builds self esteem. Of course all sports are good activities for youth, even theater and scouts help shape character and self esteem. Whatever she chooses, support her decision and please never use her activity in sports as a threat for better behavior...I have seen that break the spirit of one of the finest young racers. Never withhold their esteem building activity for punishment. It will hurt more than help. |

Michele User ID: 155380 United States 10/16/2006 03:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Is she looking for a safety net with respect to the friends thing? I do not mean this in an impudent way, simply asking because if the answer is yes then she should go ahead and make considerations on this aspect along with what her essential attributes would be as to competition to the elected sport. But why is it just one that she needs choose? Why not try a few of the excellent suggetions on here and see what "fits"? Is she tall or short for her age, long or short muscled ? How she is put together would suggest wherein she might be average or better than average in her choice and how she would be accepted with the others. Swimming is the least damaging while the best overall and costs relatively little while some of the suggestions run up into major dollars, such as skiing or say ice skating for competition and is this also a part of the quotient,is the competition part of it an objective or the participation? Whatever,go girl and have fun whatever is chosen. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 155401 United States 10/16/2006 03:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Cheerleading. My daughter has been in it for 5 years. She has great muscle tone, made tons of friends and has alot of fun. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74181what do they do in that sport? My daughter's team meets three times a week to practice cheers, and a halftime routine. Each practice is 2 hours long. They learn easy gymnasticts (cartwheels, splits, handstands, roundoffs) and how to stunt. They cheer at the football games each week, either on Sat. or Sun. Also they have a competition each year on November 5th. So they add more practices for that. They compete against other town cheerleaders with a stunting, cheer, and dance routine. Sounds like alot, but my daughter loves it. She also attends a cheerleading camp in the summer. They get trophies and medals. |
