I've seen some Americans on this site griping about how they didn't contribute to slavery because their ancestors didn't own slaves. But have you actually checked your family tree? I ask this because many people I have randomly asked have never even seen their family tree. There have been some notable people over the years who have come to realize the sad truth that their ancestors did own slaves. For instance, Ben Afleck. Yep, the guy who used to date J-Lo aka Jenny from the Bronx is descended from a "Massa". Pretty messed up! While American Express asks consumers, "what's in your wallet?", I ask you, "who was in your family tree?".  |

At one point my family owned over 200. Once I met a black woman who had my last name. My last name is very rare and doesn't even exist in most States. I knew her ancestors came from my ancestors' plantation. Do I feel guilty? Fuck no. Animals are best kept on a short leash. |

When he released them, only two actually left. When he closed the plantation and left, two nine year old girls loved him so much, they went with him. In old pictures in our family, they were referred to as Aunt Mable and Aunt Fanny. They were always on the porch in rocking chairs. Their families and our are still close. My mother lives on the same hill with some of their descendants and they look out for each other. They are still family and we see them at holidays. Good people. Salt of the Earth. |
