yes, the VA hosp is across the street - from the field where he started shooting - and his car was parked? One of the detainees called into the TV station and said that the reports of people being taken to the VA was not true - he said that it was also part of the "crime scene" and they were being taken to some other location ... no reports localally about him having a bible in his hand .... but that he did take something out of the second bag, before he left it outside ... I imagine it was bullets ... because reports said that initially there were hundreds of shots fired (into the parking lot of the strip mall from the field behind the PP bld) - his T-shirt did look brand new, but the guy in the mug shot didn't look like the guy who "surrendered" - he had dark short hair, no beard and wasn't fat or old IMO ... we were told that he was taken away from the area (and not to a local jail) where this guy was paraded out in handcuffs - you could see the (younger guy) being THROWN into the squad car - after a scuffle where it looked to me like he got sucker punched while his hands were still up ... after which he was next seen laying across the back of the police vehicle ... not even time to handcuff him ...

as for the cop who was killed, he was THE very first responder, from the college (close by) who went into the parking lot to assist the first person killed - and who apparently was shooting at the shooter - according to reports about 20 shots fired in that volley and the cop was fatally wounded ... not sure about the second citizen fatality, but I may have been a stray bullet in the first exchange ... before any other police arrived and started "sheltering everyone in place" - and the gun man entered the PP building
