Anonymous Coward User ID: 69139374 Canada 11/29/2015 09:02 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Early sixties there was no government handouts Not in Canada anyway. When my parents imagrated to Canada there was no handouts. No welfare, no EI, no health care, no pensions, no maternity leave, NOTHING. Women were expected to get back to work a week after giving birth. Victim culture didn't exist back then. People new they had to work, save money for the rainy day and be responsible. If that ment living 3 families in a 3 bedroom apartment, that's what they did the first 3 years. They all saved money and bought a house. Smaller government also ment less taxes, it was easier to save money back then. You kept most what you earned.
My parents are shocked how many young people live off government benefits these days. It was completely foreign back then.
I not saying the system was perfect back then. But now I feel the pendulum swung to much to other side, and people expect big government in thier lives.

Many got married late teens, early twenties and had children. And no government handouts. |

Remember they want EVERYONE to live on $500 per month. A check issued by the gov. And you do exactly what the fuck you're told.

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 58670080 True. My parents knew nobody who was on any government assistance. Totally unheard of in the early sixties. |
