There's a lot to ponder over a civil war; how it would play out.

Would the war be geographical in nature, ie: a north vs south or what have you?

Or would it be a general uprising?

How will the rebels operate? Will there be a conventional component to the rebel forces? How will they be organized?

For sure the feds will be heavy handed. They'll roll out into the streets with armor, set up check points, and point their guns at everybody in town. People won't like this and if they don't personally feel threatened by the rebels then it is all but certain which way public perception will sway.

Except that the feds are ruthless. They'd start executing people disguised as rebels to try to make the public fearful and appreciative of the storm troopers in their streets.

I don't think it's about weapons or firepower. The winner will be the one that commands the loyalty of the average person.

i hope to god the libs push this issue, they will get culled overnight and we will rid ourselves of this plague instantly

Americans, by and large, do not have any idea of what ruthless will mean.

A dose of realism will help get you on more sound footing as to what might be in store in the event of a civil war.

The tide at HuffPo is turning. Reading the comments, you see a multitude of libertarian-minded individuals banding together to decry this nonsense. Every tenth or so comment is a liberal nut job that posts some hysterical, straw man bullshit.

No, that is not the case.

I truly believe that people should not be governed by their emotions, and much of the response to the prospect of civil war is emotionally driven, such as the seeking of security would be or the 'bring it on' attitude.

Prior to WWII, many thoughtful Europeans sent their children to Canada, as an example of an action taken by adults who saw war coming and did not want that war to endanger their children. British also evacuated their children and sometimes wives to the countryside, out of London.

I think that to shout 'Bring it on' without considering the family and their welfare is not wise, the same with the idea of hiding heads in the sand at the almost certain prospect of conflict.

Most Americans under the age of 55 or so should educate themselves as to the realities of war. A fairly recent conflict could be the breakup of Yugoslavia with severe ethnic cleansing as a feature that could very well involve the US.

I truly do not think the the majority of GLPers are ready for the murderousness of effective ethnic cleansing, and that is what it would come to.
