Variations on the spiral symbol are common in North American native tradition, particularly in the west. The Anasazi used it to signify the hole from which mankind entered into this world from the previous one.
This is the way the world ends.
This is the way the world ends.
This is the way the world ends.
Not with a bang but with a whimper.

Ancient man: Our house is north of the mountain

- Which mountain, there's countless mountains here.

Ancient man: Let's create a large symbols on the land, to serve as landmarks. Once you reach massive star etching, go east, and you'll see a large spiral etching, and my village is north of here. If you ever get lost in the wilderness it'll also be easier to find.
