This WAX thing is absolutely something that is being used on ANIMATED FIGURES. Not just the sculptures. I've seen it up close and personal. It doesn't look that realistic, but you do have to use your senses and discernment.

I think the WAX thing is different than prosthetics (like chin and nose putty) and different from masking (which is latex / rubber). All these techniques are being used. And it's not just restricted to Hollywood.
