I make a lot of hemp jewelry. I am a huge advocate for the legalization and utilization of hemp and hemp goods. The fact it isn't used and is still illegal in the US to grow is absolutely absurd.

I have had hemp snack foods, hemp shampoo, shoes, t-shirts, jeans, boxers, wallets, hemp plastic, soap, lip balm, etc.

You can run cars on hemp diesel, as well as aircrafts. It is excellent feed for farm animals, and humans.

I could talk about hemp all day long, but I will spare anyone reading this.

Actually, I have some hemp seeds - roasted and salted. The taste? errr... not bad, it's an acquired taste thingy.
Not sure, but I think it contains the all important omega 3.

It does contain omega 3, as for the seeds, I like them roasted. But if you ever come accross "hemp-nut butter" buy some, its the best. It's like peanut butter only better and made obviously with hemp seeds instead of peanuts.

Someone on GLP awhile back wrote that HEMP could solve the fuel problems in the US. They say it grows anywhere and produces so many potential values that it would put a lot of government people out of jobs.

I think I am for reducing govenment. That would be a good use for HEMP!

If you can talk about it all day I can be a great reader because I know very little about HEMP as you do.

Why do you think that a FREE people in the US would allow their government to make it ILLEGAL? And, what can US Citizens do to put an end to such insanity?

I'm a huge believer in hemp, but I dont think it will solve ALL our feul problems. It would help tremendously but I don't see it solving all feul problems.

It would help so many things, its rediculous. We could just pick one problem and I bet there is an answer in hemp.

The history of why it is illegal is a bit flimsy. One, it became illegal when marijuana did, its the same plant. Hemp was used all the time before it was made illegal. It was manditory for most land owners to grow a certian amount of hemp.

Hemp and marijuana became illegal most due to the fact that the people of the time were scared of mexicans. Mexicans were coming to the US just like now and working, they would relax at the end of the day with the a smoke, a joint. With enough propaganda, people soon came to believe the marijuana was evil and would make sane people go ape shit crazy and become murderous.

Boom, its illegal. Thats the story most people agree with. I'm not sure. Maybe the textile companies back then also had a hand in it since hemp can be easily made into paper, cloth, rope, just about anything including lumber.

I like to argue in favor for Hemp as an argricultural commidity, to get away form the whole "drug" arguement but it always comes up and that is the only reason the government has not made it legal to grow hemp. Companies can order hemp in big bails, already processed, but you cannot possess it as a plant.

There are several groups out there who lobby for the legalization of hemp. But with all the man made substitutes out there, it will take a lot more people to get hemp legalized.

I think as you do that HEMP would not solve ALL the fuel issues, but if we could get mass transportation to use it such as city cabs, buses, and the railroads, even the semi tractor trailer trucks, or at least some of them it would be a giant savings of oil reserves.

Not everyone drives across country and those people can use HEMP products to fuel their cars.

It can be used to make paper, instead of cutting down and using trees. This can't possibly happen soon enough!!! - if anyone has used 'Google Earth' and looked at the deforestation around the world, you would know what I mean!

"hemp" was used to make an estamated 10% of the gas used in WWII. A video was sent to local farmers by the Gov. to show how to grow and harvest Hemp for this purpose.

I agree that would be a start. It is just another bio-deisel which we have already in various forms. I think for transportation hydrogen is the way to go, but various forms of bio-deisel is the easiest to convert to as it doesnt require as much modification. The thing that really makes hemp a better bio-deisel is the fact that everything can be used for something. There is no waste. You can also make motor oil out of hemp as well.

I think hemp's true calling is to stop the cutting down of trees for paper products. Thats where hemp truly beats everything else. You can get more paper out of 1 acre of hemp than 4 acres of trees. You can harvest hemp in most climates 1 to 3 times a years, but you can only harvest trees for paper productiong once every 5 to 10 years.

Its a remarkable plant to say the very least.

That is true. The reason hemp wasn't used to make more than 10% of the gas is because it takes a lot of hemp to make "gas", its really a diesel. Its just not as efficient of a process as fossil fuel. Thats really the only reason bio-dielsel hasnt caught on, its just cheaper and easier to make it the old-school way. Its a shitty way to go about making fuel, thinking of ease and money, but thats just how it is at this time. It will change, but I doubt we will see hemp desiel leading the path to renewable fuel sources.

That is totally awesome about saving the trees. I love trees and marvel at their beauty.

I did not know that paper could be made out of HEMP. Thanks. You see---you are an educator and I want to express sincere gratitude to you for talking about HEMP.

If I were to make a suggestion to teen agers; 15 and up and other young people, I would recommend that they get involved in making HEMP legal and to jail those that kept HEMP illegal. I mean, the future belongs to these young kids, and their seniors have done little or nothing to take the bad guys out of government.

Maybe it is the fact that it is so useful and useable by everyone that caused it to be banned. I smoked pot a lot as a teenager, but didn't realize its versatility as a useful plant until years later.

If it were legal now I wouldn't smoke it. The effects on me morphed as I used it until it was just a sleeping drug. I could never imagine considering it dangerous. Although, for the frequent users that I knew years ago..... it certainly inhibited their motivation to accomplish things.
