Friends in WA felt it too.

I am surprised how strong it felt here top of the hill New West, on bedrock. Woke me from a deep sleep, windows rattling. Surprised a 4.9 felt like that here with the epicenter so far away. It must have felt even worse in the valley and down by the river. I've been in lots of earthquakes in other places, a 4.9 wouldn't normally get my attention. This city is in big trouble if we ever get a big one.

I felt it here in Ladner BC, house shook pretty good. My desk and chair were rocking with me in it. I never felt that before. It started off with a very muffled deep extended thumping sound. Get's you thinking man.

The crazy thing is how suddenly it appeared on the seismograph. Some tiny rumblings beforehand, then BANG

My husband and I were outside in the hot tub under the stars when suddenly the tub started to rock back and forth for 10-15 seconds. I live at Gooseberry Point WA.
Just before going outside we watched a music special honoring Carol King- she sang
"I feel the earth...move...under my feet"

Nothing felt here in Seattle. Nervous though!

Iris seismic monitor says the quake was at a depth of 51 km, so pretty deep. That's probably why it was felt so far away. Good thing it only lasted a few seconds. This city isn't even close to prepared for a big one.
