Smell is from a layering effect within my lungs from smoking, basically a layer of molding tar that I haven't given a chance for my lungs to clear out.

Exactly. Better take a look way back in your throat and see if you got those little white specks. I had tonsillitis many times as a kid and it scarred my tonsils, now I have lots of holes in my tonsils where bits of slime and food calcify and build up, then when you cough one time you may notice a little greenish white bit comes up and when you squeeze it be ready to go wash your hands because they STINK!

We started using mouthwash a lot more after my family started getting them. The older people in my family had their tonsils removed so they don't get them, but us younger people get them bad.
