However if the rope DOES touch the water at ANY point then it proves curvature. THOUGHS???? Discuss... The weight of so much rope would pull the boat over. Lasers suspended from pendulums from very tall buildings would be better. On a curved Earth the pendulums would not be parallel at a distance. |

It will be pulling the rope down. Then you'd have to fight the movement of the boat. THEN, as another person said, 30 miles is insuffiencient. Good luck finding a suitable rope that is 30 miles long that doesn't weigh tons. Lol |

The rope should then be submerged in the water. If this experiment is done, I suspect the rope won't touch the water. A better way to do this is for the rope to my 20feet high and for the boat to go out 60miles, this way there's no chance of the waves touching the rope. That means the boat should drop below the horizon by 40 feet. |
