Former Blackwater chief under investigation for deals with China, Libya: report
3/24/16

Erik Prince, whose former mercenary firm Blackwater gained infamy during the Iraq War for incidents involving civilian casualties, is under investigation in the U.S. for attempting to provide military services to foreign governments, including Libya, according to a report in The Intercept published Thursday.

Citing interviews with several of Mr. Prince’s past and present business partners, as well as former U.S. intelligence officials and individuals familiar with the matter, the Department of Justice is said to be reviewing whether the Blackwater founder tried to broker illegal deals with foreign governments, laundering money in the process, the website reported.

Mr. Prince, who founded Blackwater — since renamed Academi — in 1997, gained notoriety when security contractors employed by his company killed 17 Iraqi civilians during a 2007 assault in Baghdad. Four of his guards were later convicted in U.S. court of either murder or manslaughter charges as a result of that incident.

NATO's account of their 'humanitarian mission' in Libya
-----

NATO and Libya (Archived)
Last Update: 11/9/15

Following the Qadhafi regime’s targeting of civilians in February 2011, NATO answered the United Nations’ (UN) call to the international community to protect the Libyan people. In March 2011, a coalition of NATO Allies and partners began enforcing an arms embargo, maintaining a no-fly zone and protecting civilians and civilian populated areas from attack or the threat of attack in Libya under Operation Unified Protector (OUP). OUP successfully concluded on 31 October 2011.

SAS deployed in Libya since start of year, says leaked memo
3/25/16

SAS forces have been deployed in Libya since the beginning of the year, according to a confidential briefing given to US congressional leaders by the king of Jordan.

A leaked memo indicates the US lawmakers were personally briefed by King Abdullah in January about plans for Jordan’s special forces to operate in the country alongside the British.

According to the notes of the meeting in the week of 11 January, seen by the Guardian, King Abdullah confirmed his country’s own special forces “will be imbedded [sic] with British SAS” in Libya.

According to the memo, the monarch met with US congressional leaders – including John McCain, the chairman of the Senate armed services committee, and Bob Corker, the chairman of the Senate foreign relations committee. Also present was the House of Representatives speaker, Paul Ryan.

REVEALED: Britain and Jordan’s secret war in Libya
3/25/16

'Third world war'

In the meeting, Abdullah, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and Royal Court political director Manar Dabbas spoke at length about how the fight against IS was the beginning of a "third world war" stretching from Indonesia to California.

“The problem is bigger than ISIL, this is a third world war, this is Christians, Jews working with Muslims against Khawarej, outlaws,” the king said, using an alternative acronym for IS, and referring to an early schismatic Islamic sect that was known for killing Muslims they declared not part of Islam.

Responding to Abdullah’s statement that his country was in a battle against the outlaws of Islam, House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan said “they don’t comprehend that view here in Washington”.

Abdullah urged the US and Russia to bury the hatchet and work together to beat IS, the document said.

“The problem is many countries are still living the cold war, but they have to get beyond that and focus on the third world war,” he said.

Patron Group chief executive Paul Attard has denied his captain had been detained after reports that a dispute between businessmen resulted in the seizure of a cargo ship.
The ‘Med Patron’ cargo ship, which was transporting 64 horses in two trucks from Malta to Libya, was not allowed to leave the port by employees of the Libyan company, Attard told MaltaToday.

European Union readies for massive migration flows from Libya, ministers to meet in April
3/26/16

EU leaders will discuss the critical situation in Libya and potential waves of immigrants trying to reach Europe on 18 April.

The discussion will take place following the regular Foreign Affairs Council meeting and ahead of Foreign Affairs Council Defence on 19 April, in Luxembourg.

French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said on Thursday that some 800,000 migrants are in Libya hoping to cross to Europe.

Le Drian told Europe 1 radio that “hundreds of thousands” of migrants were in Libya, having fled conflict and poverty in the Middle East and elsewhere, adding that the figure of 800,000 was “about right”.

Libya: It Was About Regime Change, and It Was a Disaster
3/24/16

This sort of lying to the American people about what our military is trying to do is a long tradition and ongoing to this day in terms of our essentially combat operations against ISIS. This sort of thing, this:

'gradual accretion of troops, capabilities, arms transfers, and expanded military missions seemingly just “happens,” because officials frame each policy step as normal and necessary. The reality is that, collectively, they represent a fundamentally larger and different intervention.'

Clinton tried to show some warrior cojones with her famous "We came, we saw, he died" zinger. Clinton described that before an October 2015 hearing as "an expression of relief that the military mission undertaken by NATO and our other partners had achieved its end.”

But as Zenko's article makes clear, that wasn't the end that we the people were told was being pursued. And Clinton's eager central role in such a game of tricking both U.S. and world opinion into not caring much about military actions by misleading us about their goals and intentions is something I hope voters don't forget.

Senior Tories attack 'disastrous plan' to station 1,000 UK troops in Libya
3/26/16

But members of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee say moves are being considered to base the training mission in Tripoli itself, despite opposition among Libyans to any kind of foreign troop presence on their soil.
Crispin Blunt, the Tory MP an ex-Army officer who chairs the committee, told the Daily Telegraph that the troops would be sitting targets for attacks by the Islamic State jihadists that now control parts of Libya. They could also be at risk from militias opposed to the new unity government.

[link to www.telegraph.co.uk]
-----

That's a sneaky statement there. On one hand, it means that sending a few troops is not a good idea, as they would easily be attacked.
What they don't say is that eventually, those attacks will be used to sell the 'more boots on the ground' tactic, which we've seen too many times now.

UN violation of main aim of Libya Dialogue led to present chaos
3/27/16

Much of the responsibility for the present chaos in Libya can be traced back to the actions of the UN, the UN Security Council and the many countries who strongly support the UN-brokered Libya Political Agreement (LPA).

The hubris, arrogance, and bad faith of the actions of the former Special Envoy to Libya, Bernardino Leon and his successor, Special Representative to the Secretary-General Martin Kobler, are astonishing but everyone applauds them and their efforts.

The Libya Dialogue was a UN-brokered attempt to have the two main rival governments, the House of Representatives (HoR) in Tobruk and the rival General National Congress (GNC) in Tripoli along with other stakeholders come to a political agreement which would result in peace and a unity government that both parliaments would accept. The two rival governments would voluntarily hand over power to the unity government. The aim was to have a government that will request foreign military intervention to fight against the Islamic State. The intervention could also deal with the huge flow of immigrants from Libya to Europe.

An estimated 20 000 Bangladeshis are believed to be working in Libya even though Dhaka some six months ago banned the sending of workers to the war-racked country.

In Swift, Decisive Action, Security Council Imposes Tough Measures on Libyan Regime, Adopting Resolution 1970 in Wake of Crackdown on Protesters
2/26/11

Some speakers, such as the representatives of Lebanon and the Russian Federation, stressed the importance of affirming the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Libya. The Chinese representative said he had supported the resolution taking into account the special circumstances in Libya.

Speaking last, Libya’s representative said that the Council’s action represented moral support for his people and was a signal that an end must be put to the fascist regime in Tripoli. He launched an appeal to all the officers of the Libyan armed forces to support their own people, and welcomed the referral to the International Criminal Court, as well as the decision not to impose sanctions on those who might abandon Mr. Al-Qadhafi in the end.

Libya: US, UK and France attack Gaddafi forces
3/20/11

The UK, US and France have attacked Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi's forces in the first action to enforce a UN-mandated no-fly zone.
Pentagon officials say the US and the UK have fired more than 110 missiles, while French planes struck pro-Gaddafi forces attacking rebel-held Benghazi.
Col Gaddafi has vowed retaliation and said he would open arms depots to the people to defend Libya.
Cruise missiles hit air-defence sites in the capital, Tripoli, and Misrata.

Libya: Nato bombing of Gaddafi forces 'relying on information from rebels'
5/18/11

Nato's bombing campaign against the Libyan regime is relying strongly on information supplied by rebel leaders in Benghazi with advice from a growing numbers of British officers, according to a senior European diplomat.

Nato denies the rebel military has any target-spotters on the ground to direct the air strikes against Gaddafi. But the diplomat, familiar with the situation in Benghazi, said the main function of the rebels' military leadership committee, the joint operations centre (JOC), was to help the Nato campaign.

"The JOC is just below the [supreme] military council," said the diplomat. "Its main job is to co-ordinate and make more effective the processing of military and tactical information back into Nato so air operations are based on the best information available."

Libya conflict: Gaddafi 'losing grip' on regime as RAF backs rebels
8/21/11

The Foreign Office Minister Alistair Burt said RAF fighter jets had played a "significant" role in Nato attacks on Col Gaddafi's forces in the last 24 hours.
The air assault, in which RAF Tornado GR4s struck with precision-guided Paveway bombs in and around Tripoli, came as pockets of rebels rose up overnight in neighbourhoods across the capital, sparking heavy street fighting for the first time in the city since the rebels took up arms.

America’s Secret Libya War
8/30/11

The U.S. military has spent about $1 billion so far and played a far larger role in Libya than it has acknowledged, quietly implementing an emerging "covert intervention" strategy that the Obama administration hopes will let America fight small wars with a barely detectable footprint.
Officially, President Obama handed the lead role of ousting Muammar Gaddafi to the European members of NATO. For this he was criticized by Washington war hawks who suggested that Europeans working with a ragtag team of Libyan rebels was a recipe for stalemate, not victory.
But behind the scenes, the U.S. military played an indispensable role in the Libya campaign, deploying far more forces than the administration chose to advertise. And at NATO headquarters outside Brussels, the U.S. was intimately involved in all decisions about how the Libyan rebels should be supported as they rolled up control of cities and oil refineries and marched toward the capital, Tripoli.

NATO's Intervention In Libya: A New Model?
9/12/11

NATO planes are still in the air and bombing targets over Libya, and Moammar Gadhafi is still on the loose. Nonetheless, NATO is taking something of a victory lap in the wake of an operation that broke new ground for the military alliance.

But the Libyan operation also raised questions about its mission, its future role in such conflicts, and how it determines when to intervene.

In Strikes on Libya by NATO, an Unspoken Civilian Toll
12/17/11

TRIPOLI, Libya — NATO’s seven-month air campaign in Libya, hailed by the alliance and many Libyans for blunting a lethal crackdown by Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi and helping to push him from power, came with an unrecognized toll: scores of civilian casualties the alliance has long refused to acknowledge or investigate.

By NATO’s telling during the war, and in statements since sorties ended on Oct. 31, the alliance-led operation was nearly flawless — a model air war that used high technology, meticulous planning and restraint to protect civilians from Colonel Qaddafi’s troops, which was the alliance’s mandate.

Libya Could ‘Open the Floodgates’ For Thousands Of Migrants Into Europe
3/29/16

Libya is in the midst of a civil war, with at least two groups claiming to be the legitimate government and large swathes of territory under Islamist control. This means immigration detention centres are increasingly reliant on foreign aid in order to stay open, with conditions described as “squalid” and “brutal”.

Colonel Mohamed Bourgiba, head of the Gweea detention centre, which holds hundreds of migrants, told The Times: “The state is very weak and there is no money. Most of us here aren’t even getting paid.” He warned that if things do not improve “we will just stop working and open the floodgates. Because at the moment we are doing all of this for nothing.”

[link to www.breitbart.com]

----
'Libya' isn't doing anything, let alone opening floodgates. As of right now, 'Libya' is merely the name of a country. It has no government. The factions are nowhere closer to an agreement now than they were in the beginning, regardless of UN backslapping.
Those truly responsible for 'opening the floodgates' need to be looked at more closely.
Who created this situation?
That's more important, because what we see right now is the result of an incredibly illegal action, which stripped 'Libya' of any identity, security or law.

Until this day 90% of the Libyan population of 6 million support Muammar Gaddafi and their democratic people's government called the "Jamahoriya" (State of the Masses). The system they used to have was the most Democratic in the world. Read the "Green book" to read about it or watch this:

This was all taken away from them when the West Armed, organized, financed and helped the terrorists from Libya and all over the world with NATO acting as an air force to overthrow the government so they can loot the nation's monetary and resource wealth and 144 tons of gold/silver. Along with this they could put an end to Gaddafi's work for humanity and his actions against the NWO.

The only reason the Libyan people are taking long to restore the country is because it's saturated from terrorists who still have the weapons and power NATO left them with not to forget also NATO has killed tens of thousands of Libyan men and even women who defended their land and completely decimated the Libyan army.

He also urged Libya's internationally recognised parliament, based in the country's east, "to uphold its responsibilities" in implementing a UN-brokered power-sharing deal announced in December.

I agree. I am sure the Russians analyze and plan very strategicaly and think about this better than me or you do but yes they are quite busy in Syria, so I think Libya is on hold. Hopefully Assad which most Syrians also support and the Syrian army can quickly eradicate the filth terrorists and extremists and claim victory. Only maybe then they can help out Libya. Libya's unity government leaders in Tripoli power bid

Leaders of Libya's new unity government have arrived in the capital, Tripoli, by boat in an attempt to take control.
Over recent days, Tripoli's airspace has been intermittently closed to stop the Presidency Council, which has been based in Tunisia, from arriving by air.
Libya's UN envoy called for a "a peaceful and orderly handover".
But hardliners in the coalition that controls Tripoli are opposed to the UN-brokered deal aimed at reconciling a nation split by five years of conflict.

What’s going on in Libya? Ask a local
3/30/16

It feels like a lot of the important complexities of the situation aren’t getting across in most Western reports.

When I was working for [UK newspapers] they gave you 300 words. If you have 300 words once a month, you’re not going to understand, and a lot of the reporting will be very vague. If you over-generalize and put all the extremist Islamists in one camp, which is something a lot of journalists do, that’s definitely a big mistake.

For example, if you look at Benghazi, there’s a group called the Benghazi Revolutionaries’ Shura Council. These guys are an alliance of different Islamist-leaning militias, including Ansar al-Sharia, who attacked the US compound back in 2012. They’re fighting alongside ISIS in Benghazi. So what a lot of people do is they put [ISIS and the Revolutionaries’ Council] in the same camp because they are fighting [on] the same side. Both are fighting General Haftar, who is the general who declared war against extremists in Libya.

The problem is these two groups are actually very much against each other. In one ISIS propaganda video, ISIS actually puts up the flag of the Benghazi Revolutionaries’ Council next to the American flag when they’re trying to show viewers who their enemies are. You’ll find on some front lines where they’re low on numbers, they’ll stand together, but it doesn’t mean they’re fighting for the same cause.

Re: Libya Updates 6/12/17
Head of UN-Backed Government Sails to Libyan Capital
3/30/16

Hours after he landed, shops and restaurants closed, and cars lined up outside petrol stations. Opposing militias set up checkpoints in downtown Tripoli, stopping cars and searching drivers.

Serraj arrived with six deputies who are members of the Presidential Council, which was established based on a U.N.-mediated deal signed by breakaway groups from the two governments last year. The council formed the new unity government headed by Serraj.

The officials were prevented from flying into Tripoli by a rival Islamist-backed government based in the capital. A third government is based in the east of the vast oil-rich country. Libya has been dominated by an array of militias since the 2011 uprising that toppled and killed longtime dictator Moammar Gadhafi.
