Well, I suppose he is right....technically.

I have bought several firearms online without a background check. However, they were always shipped to a local gun shop and they did the background check before allowing me to walk out with it. I did buy it online without a background check however.

He's just lying again as usual.

ive never personally bought at a show, but i have witnessed friends buy at shows and they as well had to fill out paper work and pick up their purchases later at a store.

No. That's not right. The background check was done BEFORE you could take possession of the weapon.

Barry said there were online sites that you could get guns from without a background check.

You may have paid for it before but you didn't "acquire the possession of" the firearm until after the background check was done.

I do not believe any online gun sales do the background check online. I believe that is always done at time of delivery, where the customer picks up the weapon at a local gun store and the local shop does the background check.


A bit off topic story, but true.

I purchased a firearm online, the online store had all my information, the name and address of the local gun store I was wanting to pick it from. All was well, they processed my card, it cleared and got the notice the weapon will go out on the next truck. I checked the tracking a day or two later and noticed that the shipping address was my address, I thought to myself, "this is awesome :)". I knew something was wrong. I let it go, did not really care as long as I got the weapon. Then, the next day I checked the tracking number and saw that the package had been intercepted and rerouted in midstream, it was half way to me. The online shop realized their mistake and had the package stopped and rerouted to the gun store.

He's saying he made a gun purchase face to face with someone he met online. He didn't buy a gun online and have it sent to his home address like Obama implied.

I have purchased a firearm at a gun show without a background check, but it was a used, private sale rifle. Any company selling firearms has to run the background check on you...and the only way you leave that day with a handgun from those guys is if you have your CCP

You can buy a black powder gun online and have it shipped to your home with no background check. Same with a gun made prior to 1899. But...the gov't doesn't consider these firearms, so under their classification, they aren't guns.

This is the ONLY thing I can think of he was referring to, which is snake oiling it because they aren't firearms under the law, even though they technically are.

If the Prez sees this as a huge problem then there's got to be hundreds if not thousands of online gun sales sites that will deliver the gun to your address without a background check.

Must be nice...we have to have a background check for them as well. The only difference here is, we get to leave with the rifle that day. Whereas with a handgun, you have a specific waiting period based on the county you purchased it in (most are three days)

Where I am, after a successful background check you can walk out with it, no waiting period on anything.

If you do not have your CC you fill out the form and the store associate will make a call to the FBI.

If you do have your CC, you fill out the form, show the associate your CC and you walk out with it, no call to the FBI.

The state police here runs the check on all card holders every 30 days to see if anything negative shows up to deem revoking the CC.

I'd say you paid but until you have it in your possession it's not a done deal. The background check is part of the purchase transaction since you can't take possession until you pass the background check.
