Captain Spaulding User ID: 70917205 United States 01/07/2016 12:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm still recovering from MRSA I acquired 15 months ago. I had the side of my index finger sliced off. I left the town I was in because of the absolute lowest quality health care imaginable. I had an infection from a tiny shard of glass that got bad fast, so I went to the ER where, even though my finger had a huge black pustule on it, I mentioned it also "hurt like hell". Wrong thing to say. From that point on it was "all YOU want is pain meds", "YOU need to be in rehab" (I wasn't on or even asking for them, I asked rehab for what and got the old rolling of the eyes shaking her head routine from the NP. I got in my car and drove all night, 500 miles to my old doctor. I was going to stop and sleep for an hour when it was still dark but I looked at my finger at 6 am. I had to get there quick. When I saw my doctor I had a 105 degree fever and was rushed to the ER where they hooked me up with two IV's and immediately started carving away at my hand. DAMN there's a lot of nerves in our fingertips! Because of accusing me of faking my infection for pain meds I could have died. I think it's good PR for the hospitals to refuse and preach about pain meds (that I still won't take) rather than address other issues they just don't want to be known publicly. Like how over 75,000 people die every year from STAPH they contracted in hospitals. Or that getting the WRONG medication while in the hospital kills more than tobacco and car accidents combined. Good luck. I'm still in physical therapy, but you're a lot worse off. More than I can imagine, and from my experience, you have my empathy AND my sympathy. Great medical system we have here. At one point I thought the infection was returning so I went back to the same crappy ER and was dismissed with the same accusations, even though they had my medical records. I asked the doctor "isn't it true the infection can come back and turn bad fast, like in hours and it sometimes kills? Like I could die?" He just looked at me and shrugged yes with his shoulders like it was no big deal to him and walked away. He's from China and after that I heard from a number of local friends there to NEVER go to that ER and NEVER trust Dr. L___. I won't, I moved. And I took my business and left people unemployed and contractors without work, thanks to the good doctor who should be sewing sneakers in a sweat shop in Hong Kong, not "practicing" medicine here. Again, sorry for your horrible situation and I wish the best in healing and recovery. |

Had they not taken the actions they did when they did, they would have been amputating more than just his foot.. that's if he survived at all. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 54937273 FYI MRSA wasn't around in the 40s and 50s. But what would I know, I'm just an idiot apparently... Gosh... I can't believe all the comments on this thread. Thanks everyone so much! To address a couple of questions -- MRSA can be killed if caught soon enough and with the right antibiotics. Whatever they gave me -- an IV -- worked very fast. This had spread to my kidneys and possibly other organs and within 2 days, no signs of infection other than the foot. My situation was not that text book. After going to the hospital in October, the tests showed another rather common bacteria so they put me on an oral anti-biotic. Then the MRSA took hold but it was not obvious from visual inspection until a month later when I stopped taking the oral. At that point the MRSA was in the bone and had become Osteomyletis. It had infected all of the toes and most of the metatarsal bones and it was moving quickly. The bump on the left side by the big toe was the metatarsal bone -- which was so badly damaged that it was no longer straight and it was pushing out more with each passing hour. So there was not much that could be done at that point and no time to think about it or try some other therapies. Doctors were not even sure that they could save any of the foot until they were able to get inside and see where the infection was at that time. Too early to tell if they got all of it -- or if the IV meds will kill off anything left. If this does not work, the next cut is at the ankle. Thanks again for all your well wishes... I really appreciate it. Very much! Have a nice day = GFY. GFY = Go Fuck Yourself. If this offends you then have a nice day. |

It is the bare minimum, and zero side effects. For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't believe, no proof is possible.
