Dear GLP,
It's quite clear the Baltic shipping index has collapsed. The shipping of goods from China to the rest of the world has basically dried up.
The massive growth in China over the last 20 years has been what has driven the worldwide boom in pretty much everything.
However, growth in China has now stalled and China is about to release their 4th quarter GDP number on Monday January 18.
Without a doubt, China can not sweep the bad news under the carpet anymore. China will reveal to the world on Monday that their economy is in serious trouble. China's 4th quarter GDP will be very poor.
It is no coincidence that Walmart just announced the closing of 269 stores. Walmart gets many of it's products from China.
The growth and decline of Walmart is a direct reflection of the growth and decline of China. When China is booming, Walmart is booming and expanding. When China slows down.... Walmart slows down. When China starts closing down factories and laying off workers...Walmart starts closing down stores and laying off employees.

So we have 2 major indicators that the Chinese economy has really slowed down:

1. World shipping is very very slow (Baltic Dry Index)
2. Walmart's announcement of hundreds of store closures.

This is what is about to transpire on Monday January 18....

China releases horrible 4th quarter GDP numbers. The Shanghai stock exchange and all other Chinese stock exchanges immediately crash. The Shanghai Stock Exchange no longer has protective circuit breakers, so there could be a crash so huge and so massive that 50% of the stock market gets wiped out in a single day! My guess is that there will be a 20% to 30% crash on the Shanghai.

The carnage on the Chinese markets will spread worldwide after that. Japan's NIKKEI will sink. Australia will crash. Then Europe. Then Canada.

Luckily, the US stock markets are closed on Monday, so they will be 'protected' from the worldwide stock market crashes.
However, when US stock markets open on Monday January 19, there will be the greatest single day stock market point loss in history. US stock markets will crash.
However.... maybe, just maybe, US stock markets will not be allowed to open on Tuesday. Maybe they will just 'freeze' the US markets and declare some kind of 'emergency financial measures'.

To me, it is clear the stock markets are about to crash.
I could say more on the matter, but I have more coffee to drink and don't feel like typing anymore.
