The minute they invent neuro-jacks (brain implants) for virtual reality, society will collapse

When you can plug your mind into a computer virtual reality that directly stimulates your senses (you can't distinguish it from reality), then I say society is toast. At that point, the 95% of human beings on this Earth who are basically miserable or unhappy with life are going to opt for the much more pleasant fantasies, thrills, and excitement of 3-D virtual reality.

Like me. I'm a guy going through the motions at my mind-numbing job, stuck in a cubicle all day, cut off from anything that remotely resembles excitement. And I'm doing it all just so I can pay for health care for an ailment I got from the stress of my mind-numbing job.

Now if somebody offered me 3D virtual reality at reasonable cost -- I'M THERE IN A SECOND! Who wouldn't trade a bleak existence in a cubicle (or worse, a Third World slum) for a virtual beach on Hawaii? Or Tahiti? Or a flight to the moon?

Assuming most everybody will opt for the virtual reality, then society will collapse because no one will be around to run it. We'll all be at home, jacked into the matrix 24/7.
