My fb friend had his employment support allowance cut off
there were posts asking for milk - tobacco - checking his bank - i had no idea how bad it was - i checked through his fb and he doesn't seem to have had any money since November - got 3 bags of charity food at end of December and friends brought him Christmas dinner - i saw a post where he could barely stand up - saying he wasn't drunk - didn't see it at the time - posts asking for a hug - i couldn't feel any worse

his page is covered in rest In Peace today

so sad - and devoed.

xx

his last post was on the 6th of jan - don't know if he died and no one knew.

In hindsight i can see the calls for help i feel so bad - all i did to help was give him the phone numbers for the esa helplines including the free ones - this is so sad.

Re: My fb friend had his employment support allowance cut off
People that have never TRULY been down and out always think there are these magical phone numbers that someone in trouble can call to get what they need.

Maybe that's true for refugees, but not the rest of us.

Truth is, giving someone a phone number isn't helping. Chances are they've already tried it. Many of these "resources" just give you another number to try, and folks go down a rabbit hole of making call after call to turn up nothing at all.

What this guy needed was an intervention. Someone to go pick him up and take him to help. TAKE HIM to a food bank, physically help connect him with people looking to hire, and other networking like that. The hopelessness of a bad situation can leave someone eventually unable to do these things.

Sad that he was reaching out via fb where people tend to avoid posts about things that make them feel bad. Poor guy.

I am so sorry Redhouserebel. hf

we have to acknowledge that times have changed and old rules do not apply any longer, at least not for us. we need time to adjust to this change which presently obviously only serves the very rich and those in power.

I know. I can see in hindsight and having gone back through his facebook what was going on; I just said the same to my daughter - i am utterly devoed - she said if i had brought him milk it wouldn't have changed anything - but i said i would have got onto the problem and could have intervened - i didn't get it - i have put stupid statuses saying things like "anyone got any teabags" - so i can nip to a neighbour instead of the shop - i should have followed up about the esa call -

the last thing he wrote on my facebook - i had another stupid status - i was on jury duty starting 4th Jan and i wrote "I need a brewwww" and he commented: "Murder1"

i didn't even answer cos i was on jury duty and ... whatever... he literally was crying out for a cup of tea not just having to wait for one - and the state is murdering people like this all the time - i saw somewhere 10,000 people a year declared for for work and benefits cut off die within a year - i am so sad and so sorry and so upset that a human being died like this - asking for help and no one seeing it.

I don't know his perszonal story.

Massive survey majority believes 'inhuman' DWP causes and then covers-up claimant deaths
