See that little area that it flows into? It happens a lot.. tards. I've been there myself, just a tidal pattern. Happens in the coastal areas of B.C as well.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71173569

Wrong! Go shill some other forum.

I have been there, more than enough on vacations, to know this outlet from creeks flowing into the Pacific.

Try again.

Re: Tsunami @ Pacific Beach in Washington
how come this isn't pinned?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71273305

I'll have you know pine was added
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 45543688

No...it's not pinned--Tried to green pin it
but there are too many pins up...

We really need to have a "BREAKING-NEWS PIN"
that can over-ride the 10 that are up if something
really major--and verifiable--happens. I'm really
thinking that something like a minor tsunmai video
from the coast of Washington State is a little
more important than New Jersey suspending its law
about shoveling your sidewalk.

Wonder how we would present this to the MODS?

Anyways...this needs to be bumped today to keep
it on page 1. There may be MORE coming due to
the alignment and other "issues" right now!

cheers

That's not a Tsunami silly. It's normal tide LMAO it's just that the point of view where the footage was taken from looks like it could be a mini-tsunami. The water was still on the area of the beach/coast line. Get a life!

All you need do, A.C. is to CHECK THE TIDE CHARTS
for this area. If you knew when the video was taken,
and you know what the tides charts for that date and
time are--you have your answer...

If you haven't check this info, you're talking out
your ass...and doing a serious disservice to people
who may be in harms way in this area.

Something is going on for sure. The continuous earthquake off Vancouver Island and the 4ft drop last week....now a 6.9 off the coast of Mexico right on the fault line. Somethin's up for sure.

It does look more like a tidal bore than a tsunami but if unusual for that area then wow, what a find!

Here's one from my area of the UK.

"As many as 60 bores occur throughout the world where the river estuary is the right shape and the tidal conditions are such that the wave is able to form.."

Moran, that is NOT how tide comes in there. Much slower than that, and when high tide is at peak that creek fills up, and it looks like a mini bay. You can clearly see in sat pics where high tide stops consistently, and it's well below this surge of water.

Re: Tsunami @ Pacific Beach in Washington
This is what some of the posters who believe this video
is "the normal in-coming tide" need to understand!

There are places on the planet where tides come into
areas that are "drained" and then fill...however this
takes several hours, and do not come into the bay in
a mass-event. Here is the wording for the video and
a look at Canada's "Bay of Fundy"

I'm NOT a "wave expert" but unless this Bay in Washington
is like the Bay of Fundy, you aren't looking at a normal
tide. (But I could be wrong...we'll know more soon enough
as I doubt this is going to be the last we hear about
the Cascadia Zone!)

"...Time-lapse video of the Bay of Fundy tide at Point Wolfe, Fundy National Park, New Brunswick, Canada. This vantage point on the Shiphaven Trail is THE most spectacular location in Fundy National Park to see the full range of the tide. You would have to sit here for 6 hours and 10 minutes to experience this!

Re: Tsunami @ Pacific Beach in Washington
Either way you slice it.. it is not a "normal tide" pattern. There are places that have tidal rushes on a regular basis and are known in the area for happening at certain times a day... such as the wave in the Amazon the guys time perfectly and then ride in muddy brown shit water into the amazon jungle.

I have not heard of a tidal surge like that up in Washington that is regular, but who knows perhaps it is. If this was a regular occurrence for this beach I think we would see fences around the perimeter with warnings. Hard to see from this angle if those are there or not.

To me it looks like a mini Tsunami/Tidal rush.. The ocean does do this from time to time regardless... so you always have to respect the ocean when you are near it period.

Oh and everyone who keeps calling this a wave must live in the middle of the country or something. Waves don't look like this at all.. lol. Not sure how you could mistake this for a wave. This is definitely related to tidal rush of some sort. Not to be confused with a wave.
