They will offer the moon if it could be given, just to say, "This is the home of the XXX XXX". Taxpayer's money is limitless when trying to get that team to play for that city. There is no asking the public, they don't give a damn what we think. Laws need to be written to protect the taxpayers. We as a public should NOT be forced yo pay one penny to fund any sports and or teams. If this John Doe wants to pay extra taxes, then he should, but if Jane Smith does NOT approve, then she will not see any new taxes. In reality, teams and the sports league are the only ones that should pay. WE do not benefit for having a sports team in town. Only the lucky few that own businesses around the stadium and the individuals that know the right people will make money. If they want a new stadium, then add an extra 5 bucks to each ticket. If it take 20 years to make enough money, so bit it. Leave the rest of us alone. |

Bob Kraft was going to build a Patriot's stadium in the City of Boston, on new seaport land where a whole new neighborhood is going up, and the city and locals fought it. Too much $problems$ for a place that'll only be used a relatively short period of time per year, that would require some public $ for infrastructure, probably tax breaks, etc. Boston has premier pro basketball, baseball, hockey in city limits, NFL and MLS in Foxboro, a suburb. A serious attempt was made to host the summer Olympics in Boston, lot of private $ was spent, Boston made it to the final round, but most people and the city itself were against it. No one wanted to spend a dime of public $. Every city that has hosted the Olympics has been fucked over. Boston was recently chosen as #1 sports city in America. I understand some cities will fork over public $ for stadiums, etc. for status I suppose, but follow the $ trail. |

At the end of the day sentimentality means nada They used the taxpayers of St. Louis and MO. But St. Louis has far bigger problems than losing the Rams. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 52154903 United States 01/24/2016 05:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My city voted DOWN three times attempts to build stadiums or arenas with public funds. Taxpayers in my city are NOT stupid! Just down the road however another city's population voted to PUBLICLY FUND a NEW Football Stadium, a NEW Baseball Stadium, and a NEW Arena. Everything added together adds up to almost $2 BILLION Dollars. Talk about a bunch of STUPID people!! The teams make all the money while the public gets to pay for the arenas /stadiums since the teams basically pay nothing for the use of those facilities ... and generally the teams get to keep ALL the concession money AND PARKING MONEY I fail to see the fascination with the public voting to give millionaire owners even MORE MILLIONS!! |
