Antarctic Explorer Died - Question about the journey
As many of you may know, Henry Worsely died trying to become to first man to traverse Antarctica unaided.

Here, you can see all (known) traversals of Antarctica:

Here's the question: Is it accurate to say that moving from the Ronne Ice Shelf to the Ross Ice Shelf -- apparently the only sort of journey that's on record -- is travelling essentially east (from below south America) to west (below New Zealand), with a curve that touches the "south pole"?

Are there any vertical traversals on record -- From Belgran II to Mirny -- for example?

Re: Antarctic Explorer Died - Question about the journey
I dont think its possible to cross in winter yet. The record is now 300km I think. Even vehicles would fall in snow covered crevices and once you leave there isnt no way of support. You have to bunker down the whole winter. r.i.p Mr Worsley.
