US Millionaire and Dragons Den(Shark Tank in the US) star caught paying underage girls for sex

A former Dragons' Den star told girls aged 13 and 15 how women in Japan dress up to look younger before going on to have sex with the teenagers, a court heard.

Doug Richard, 57, allegedly arranged for the girls to join him at a £149-a-night apartment in central London through a website called 'Seeking Arrangements'.

The Californian businessman admits sexual activity did occur with the child, but claims it was consensual and he believed she was at least 16 at the time.

The Old Bailey heard how the technology entrepreneur, who quit the BBC show after famously failing to invest a penny in the second series, paid the two teenagers £480 for the encounter.

In a videotaped interview the 15-year-old told police how when they met, he talked about a recent trip to Japan and how women there dress up to make themselves look younger.

Describing her first impression of Richard, she said she did not know his name but described him as bald, white, not very muscular, around 37 years old and 'kind of boring'.

She said: 'He greeted us with a kiss on the cheek. He started talking about his trip to Japan and also girls. There is a trend there where girls dress up younger and make themselves look younger. He went on for a bit.'
