Re: what's up with oral history traditions when they already have writing?
So, where are the written versions of oral history kept at?

As and example the Highlanders of olde kept their history alive by reciting it in the clans through the "Bards" nothing was written down, so where would those "written" records be kept?

I am guessing you are a little young, and therefore understandably ignorant.
In the example Highlander gave, it was often illegal to do that.In fact, it was illegal, for instance, to even BE a MacGregor, let alone have a written history of the Clan. Many MacGregors became Campbells, for instance.
And that's just one example. The Crown also made it illegal at one point to be an O'Neill.
So, if it is illegal to be an O'Neill, and your family history goes back 5000 years plus, and you want your descendants to know their history, you have to memorize it, and make sure someone of the next generation memorizes it too.

Ah, OK, now I understand...

Well one reason is that they were uneducated and purposefully kept that way as much as possible by the Holy Roman church as they were afraid that if people were able to read and write the church would lose its control over them...Another reason is that there was not much paper or writing material around back then. Once again it was and still is TPTB and their controlling benevolence at work...
