I think I am going to have to tell my son that he still gets my old Toyota truck for free, but he is going to have to buy his own portable memory at that price. $800 for a 1TB drive? Are you smoking crack? They're $99 at best, moran. |

THEY KEEP FLAGS OFF? OP, Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71326688 1T for 22 bucks? C'mon, you must have known something wasn't kosher. You might be able to pick up a 16 GB or maybe even a 32 on sale for $22., if you're lucky. Honestly. I have seen so many of these listed, I truly thought that the technology exists for the mass production of this size of USB making it feasible to offer them at this price. Conjoin that with the fact that so many people are buying them and it is easy to see how one can assume these are real. Did I fall for a scam that is driven by herd mentality of blissfully ignorant consumerism? I am ashamed to admit it, but YES. I got suckered because I purchased on assumption not fact. The simple fact that so many people are similarly purchasing these should demonstrate the reason why I created this thread. Just because people are buying these does not mean that they are stupid. I simply means that they are uninformed, uneducated and operating on a flawed understanding of the feasibility of manufacture of such products. People need to know the truth or this crap will continue to be sold to unsuspecting consumers who are not aware that technology doesn't yet support USB sticks of this size for this price. |

However, there are just as many instances where hard drives also meet this criteria, but that is not what the specifics for this thread were originally about. Since it has been brought up numerous times though, that too applies. Take this gem for example. [link to www.hack247.co.uk] |

I can only suggest buyer beware, if it sounds too good, it probably is. Buy from reputable, well known retailers (many actually sell on amazon and ebay). Amazing the lengths people will go to to scam others. |

THEY KEEP FLAGS OFF? yup. reformat it when you first get it and you'll discover it's real size. There are several tests you can do to ascertain if the product you purchased is in fact what it claims to be. The majority of memory being sold have been hacked/modified to report to the operating system extremely over-inflated capacity which simply does not exist. H2testw is the test I used to find the true size of the USB memory stick I purchased. The test is still running even though I know I don't need to complete it. It has been running for 3 solid days. There are simpler faster tests you can do that will give the same result, but I chose this one. The true memory according to H2testw is 7.2G which makes it an 8G memory USB stick, pen drive, thumb drive or what have you. |

The biggest games are about 50GB right now so this stick could handle it easily. |

I know, I have been an ebayer for well over a decade and have had to do it several times. |

THEY KEEP FLAGS OFF? With all due respect OP you should have done research before your purchase. One tech podcast interviewed someone that sells bogus USB flash drives and MicroSD cards. Their excuse is that they're only scamming greedy people who think they're getting over on the seller. In your case, if you had done your research you would have seen that a TB USB flash drive would go for $800 - $1000. For them to be selling for $22. would mean it's an obvious fake or the seller made a massive mistake on his auction and the buyer quickly goes in before the seller can correct his mistake thus committing himself to the sale. I'm not saying any of this was you OP, I'm just saying you should have done research. A simple 2 minute google search would have told you the actual price of that particular drive. Another point... Anytime you buy memory make sure it is a trusted manufacturer, and avoid eBay at all costs. Lastly, I know you wanted a small flash drive but a USB portable drive would have been a better choice. Pocketable, cheaper, and available in larger sizes. You could have bought a 2 TB drive that fits in your son's pocket for about $50 or so. |

I have done business with New Egg before and have never been disappointed in my purchases. |
