the only thing you really need to understand is that the creator of this universe is evil along with everything in it.

if you are a jew muslim or catholic/christian you worship this evil god.

The Gnostics were far more peaceful than modern day Christians. I can tolerate Gnostics, but today's Christians are all about hell, fire and brimestone.

this creation in this perceptible universe, were the work of the Evil god the demiurge the ignorant one.

For Gnostics, the earth and all material things in this perceptible universe, were the work of the Evil god including religion. And they acknowledged that the god of good exists in an entirely separate higher dimension that has nothing to do with the Devils playground.

This is also another misinterpretation in my view.

The physical world is not the work of an evil god. Man came from an immaterial existence and chose to experience the physical world (the fall of man). The only way to do that was through a physical body. If all things material were evil, then the computer your typing on and even yourself (regardless of gender) would be evil as well.

What I think you are referring to more is Qabbalah and its teachings, especially the Book of Formation.

This adds another wrinkle for me, have to go and think some more.
