And yes, they are all about 15-20 years behind the coasts on pretty much everything. As much as I loved living on the beach in paradise, I had to leave. And now, I can't find an in between. I want New York style service for everything, while living in an Arkansas/Idaho/Montana environment. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71328440 Liberation minded with beautiful scenery. More sun per year than Florida. No hot and cold running gun play on our hiways here in Las Cruces ! Medical Cannabis Strong second amendment state. That's so weird. My best friend in the world died 2 months ago and lived in Las Cruces. I did stay there on my way elsewhere once and thought it was cute. I'll check it out. WA is right next door tho and that's got plenty of weeds. |

I grew up in L.A., but I've traveled extensively all over the country, and love parts of all of it, but I definitely went through what I think you're saying. When in Rome etc. Quoting: Kraut Yes, but I see this as America. People from here and all over didn't mind bringing their ways to Florida. I don't see why I should be shunned for my difference anywhere either. We all pay taxes... Rome = America. |

Bonfire User ID: 70764240 United States 02/02/2016 03:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have learned to like the Rockies. I moved out here from the east about 9 years ago and noted the same things: the Internet is slower, fast food selection is scarcer, and movies/music/entertainment seem to be vastly lagged. It bothered me at first because I yearned for those amenities, but since then I've learned to connect with people better. I cut the BS that I thought I needed (movies, fast food, Internet) and instead have found and reconnected with what matter most: friends, family, self. What the west lacks in infrastructure/systems/progression, it makes up in personal effort/wisdom/responsibility. But that's all just like my opinion, man. "Man, whose tool of survival is the mind, does not merely fail to teach a child to think, but devotes the child’s education to the purpose of destroying his brain, of convincing him that thought is futile and evil, before he has started to think." |

I lived in the Boise area the first time I lived here, now I live on the eastern part of Idaho near Yellowstone. Boise is too diverse for me. But Yes, Idaho is still fairly remote, besides Boise. I have a 1/10 of what you have available to you, but it is worth it. I lived in Ohio in between living in Idaho, so happy to be away from there. I also don't fit in 100%, but much better than I did in Ohio. |

It's not long until they start trying to change it to where they came from. Maybe everybody would be happier if you went back to where all the smart, fashionable, slick & cool, people live. I doubt if the locals are really that anxious to pick up the "shine" you think they need. In fact, they could even be resentful at your efforts to improve them. Quoting: FunnyStrange Florida is what it is and I'm sure we all know what that is. Needed a change. I love the scenery here and I really like that it's sparsely populated. The people are at least 25 years behind. I can't get anything accomplished. They don't even seem to understand me. Billing depts., jobs, grocery stores, dating.. etc! I can't even find a good cup of coffee. There's no signs or directions, I get lost everywhere. I once drove 100 miles to a remote town called Atlanta because I went right instead of left. It was cool but I got a flat tire in the middle of nowhere. Maybe I'm just frustrated. I do have a bit of an east coast attitude. I don't want to go but I don't know if I can stay. Has anyone ever felt like they just don't belong somewhere but really want to? I'd never move to Idaho for a change. Colorado maybe, but Idaho, Kansas and Minnesota are three states I would never move to. |
