Julian Assange - to walk free breaking on BBC news now | |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 66609928 Ireland 02/04/2016 05:14 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A UN panel has ruled Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has been "arbitrarily detained", the BBC understands. Mr Assange took refuge in London's Ecuadorian embassy in 2012 to avoid extradition to Sweden over sex assault claims, which he denies. He earlier tweeted he would accept arrest if the panel ruled against him, but called for the arrest warrant to be dropped if the decision went his way. The Met Police said he will still be held if he does leave the embassy. [link to www.bbc.com] |

But our correspondent added the UK government is likely to argue that Mr Assange's detention is "self-imposed and follows an entirely lawful process". The UK Foreign Office has said it still had an obligation to extradite Mr Assange. |

He will still be arrested if he leaves? Ecuador wants this over. I'm sure they feel he has been unjustly persecuted but this appeal was his last chance to stay. Right or wrong I think they will finally nab him. And yes, no doubt he will be "found" guilty whether he did it or not. Fact. |
