A small plane has crashed in the waters off Los Angeles Harbor and bodies and debris have been seen in the water, Fire Department officials said Friday.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott told KNX1070 radio Friday afternoon that a “large debris field” was seen scattered in the waters between San Pedro and Long Beach and a search for bodies among the wreckage was underway.

2 aircraft collide near shore of San Pedro's Cabrillo Beach, divers begin rescue

A small plane crashed in the ocean off the shore off Cabrillo Beach shortly after 3 p.m. Friday, according to the L.A. County Fire Department.

The Coast Guard and Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the crash was the result of a mid-air collision between two aircrafts, the L.A. County Fire Department Lifeguards tweeted.
