Post nuke movie Threads: I'm too scared to buy/watch it.
I really enjoyed an American film called The Day After. I found out there's a British poke nuke film called Threads which makes the day after look like smurfs on ice, i'm too scared to get it. I know it'll bring me down. any advice?

I can't think of seeing a more disturbing movie than Threads.

Fair warning if you watch it.

Nukes only exist in movies. They're as fake as the movies themselves. That's what Stanley Kubrick was saying in 'How I learned to Stop Worrying about the bomb'

Do yourself a favour. Don't watch it. I guarantee, it will give you nightmares.

My favorite scene in 'Threads' is the person selling rats to eat from a basket.

Watch/read Cormac McCarthy's The Road....it isn't frightening but it is effin sad. Totally a unique take on the nuclear winter sub genre.

The road isn't about nuclear winter. It's about an undefined man-made disaster that kills all vegetation on the planet.

I haven't read it since it's initial release, perhaps you're right though? Searching the web there are a few articles that allude to it being a nuclear winter..but perhaps they drew the same conclusion as I. Either way, there are a shit ton of similarities with the gray, overcast setting and fires still burning throughout.

Some links

Some comments here, suggest it could have been the result of a super volcano.

physics forum, many here suggest NW possibility.

Point being, just because McCarthy didn't say it was this or that, which he is often wont to do in his writing, doesn't negate the extreme similarities to a nuclear winter situation.
