Good point. Sports are for suckers. Get a person to buy all the merchandise (pinups, jersey's, bumper stickers, coffee mugs, coats, event tickets, etc). There's a sucker born every minute. Wonder if God cares which team wins? What is with all this pride in a team of any kind? Don't sports promote more division in an already divided world? Look at all the hooligans that cause a great deal of harm. Modern day sports are nothing less than the Roman Coliseums of old. Pathetic.

Also consider the millions of baffoons who play fantasy football. My uncle at one time was involved with 12 ff groups at once....these people could really care less about which team wins...only if their "guy" is playing and what are his stats. What a fucking joke...can't wait till all of this shit ends!

However, I do like sports of personal excellence like the Olympics. Pushing the boundaries of the physical body. At least some physical science comes about from it. But I could care less which country wins an event. It's all about the feats of the individual.

Because they are living vicariously through the team. They will never be there so rooting for them and saying "we" makes them feel like they had something to do with the team winning

there are all kinds of beneficial psychological aspects of being a football, hobby fan.

It is entertainment value that one might use to escape the reality of life, just for one brief moment...to share whit friends, family, sons and daughters...

Chill out...lots of people use certain ways to escape, relax, have fun, create bonds with others, enjoy life...the only difference with sports is that it's shared with millions...

Let's look at other entertainment venues that people put a value on...

reading books-did you help write the book,do you know the author...movies- did you help with the script...board and computer games- does your fantasy game have anything to do with reality...hunting-is it a sport for some, while providing food for family, doesn't make you a survivalist..

so many other entertainment hobbies, whether they are as big as the super bowl shared with millions other like minded people, or a small entertainment of needle stitching share e d with your mom or grandma...

Big deal let people enjoy life how they choose...and for heaven's sake, worry about yourself a little more...instead of raining down on people's parade...kill joy....

yeah well people get stabbed but there is probably alcohol involved. many sports fans in the US are assholes. but there's also the wine and cheese crowd.

but the sense of community is the main thing. people like to congregate with something to look at. might as well be a sporting event.

same way people say "we" when discussing actions of their government.
