"Enter Sandman" is fairly good, might even be top 30, but ultimately it's a little too slick and formatted, isn't it?

"Stairway" is an epic, layered thing that builds to a crescendo.

You might hate it or call it played out, but those things don't take away from it one bit.

"Hey Jude" is another one.

"More Than a Feeling" is another

Actually, "More Than a Feeling" might be the greatest of all time.

Hear me out: IT's got that classic Rock N Roll chord progression but modernized, it's about a girl that got away, soaring vocals, acoustic intro, it's universal, it's hard yet accessible, it kicks your ass, and you can't get it loud enough.

Yep, the Greatest Rock song of all time is Boston's "More Than a Feeling"

Enter Sandman is like gumball pop compared to anything off those albums. Ok, but sooooo weak in comparison.

That is why it's a strong entry for Metallica. The thrash stuff isn't strictly "Rock" it's Metal, and thrash, so it's TWO sub-genres away from OP's premise.

Enter Sandman, however, is a lot closer to straight Rock.

It also reaches a wider audience as a result.

This isn't "What's your favorite rock song of all time?" the question is "What's the greatest?"
