Re: Man is the economy bad, I mean real bad!
The problem I see is our "boom" was based on expansion...however that can only go so far
How many Walmarts, Home Depots, grocery stores, etc can you have within a few miles from each other??
After they killed every small business around them....

So how much money can these stores make? How many cars can a person buy when we train people to swap for a shiny new car every two years with low payments ....

Prices keep going up on goods because we have to feel the gambling ring called Wallstreet and we have to have 2 income households with children taking care of themselves because we must work insane hours to keep afloat.

Then when we reach capacity - stores shut down, companies go under, people get laid off to maximize the profits and so forth and so on....

But we cannot go back now! Remember most of our folks grew up in households or had households where dad went to work, mom stayed home and took care of the house and children and lived in relative prosperity - THAT IS GONE !! NO MORE

In most cases - one parent drops the workforce and the family is screwed!!

We inflated the balloon as far as it could go folks - NOW WHAT??

We have based our economy in thieves selling get rich schemes, legalized gambling know as Stock Market and other countries oil....

Some days I just want to take my familly and get off the grid for good....

So, what happens if the market continues to go down (as it has been doing since the beginning of the year)?

hey just my 2 cents... i Work in the Private Aircraft Aviation Industry (10+years)... Rich people aren't flying rite now, or at-least cut back there traveling a lot comparatively.. we saw this kinda trend before the 07-08 collapse.. so take this info for what its worth..

The executive and VIP interior aircraft sector is crashing as well. These are $20-115 an hour jobs in a select skill set. Scaring times. Everyone is trying to pay off everything and have enough to cover taxes for 10 years. We are hearing gloom from the costumer reps. These costumer reps are for the Elite that can afford to purchase a 50-300 million dollar aircraft and then spend another 20-150 million to pip it out.

As soon as they raise taxes to cover federal employees pension (not the military folks) as the private tax sector begins to collapse, it will be the time to revolt and make them understand we are not their slaves.

I work for the government and business is booming!

The cities, counties, state and federal government are all hiring. Tons of police jobs and work in prisons and jails too. DHS is hiring for the border. The military and their suppliers are all hiring too.

Don't mean to rub it in but you have to have committed yourself to live beneath your means.

We've always lived like we earned half of what we actually did. This enabled us to put a lot of money aside, own 2 houses, newish autos etc.

It meant that when friends and neighbors were pissing away money on frivolous trivialities we saved. When the neighbors went to dinner and blew 150bucks on food and booze, we saved dinners out for special occasions.

When they borrowed money for furniture, cars, vacations and maxed out credit cards, we saved and paid cash. We paid our credit cards in full every month.

The so called American dream, living and spending like drunken sailors has been the norm for way too long.

I feel bad for those who are suffering and struggling to get by, BUT I feel NO guilt for having my shit together and living well.

I hope Trump can help us pull the country out of the fire. If not, bug out property here we come!

Maybe the economy isnt great. Obama hasnt help it at all. But, in the food service we are up. Personally I haven't done better financially. I have zero debt, 4,000 in savings and no money in the market. Granted I also have no retirement fund, but i figure ill be working till I die anyway.

I don't think people will give up going out to eat until things are really dire. They will give up going on vacations and shopping but they will always find some money to go out to eat. It is a social event, they don't have to cook and clean up and it is just a small break from life that they can look forward to a few times a month. Sometimes that is all it takes to keep from going crazy.

I own a trucking company and I've never seen it this bad in the 10 years if been in business. All of my drivers with 30 plus years driving also say the same thing. There is no freight out there to move.

I live west of Chicago and next to VERY BUSY train tracks. The truck traffic on the highways is also VERY BUSY here.

We are spending BILLIONS on road improvements and airport upgrades.

It is not bad everywhere.....
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 66236712

Yeah sure.

Your State is nearly bankrupt if not already.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 64887150

I also live west of Chicago and since we are both a rail and a highway node, a very important one, there is always traffic even when goods aren't moving overall through out the country.

This state is spending all sorts of cash it doesn't have and we are always spending a gazillion on roads to keep them from crumbling to dust after our winters.

The airport expansion does absolutely nothing for us if people aren't flying anywhere. It's a heavily pushed project that will make a few peeps a lot of money but none of them are the average Joe.

Most people are getting poorer except for a few select people who live in places like Oak Brook and Hinsdale. So I'm not sure what the fuck he is talking about.
