What they do is reinvest most of the revenue back into the organization, meaning many times better fringe benefits for their employees. Mission statement is irrelevant. Want to know more? The BAR association lays it all out- had to read it in grad school. Glad i stil have it. |

You are not employees! Why wouldn't they suck the energy from you, they have a bottom line to meet. And people act they were held against their wills'. Smart people walk away when they are done 'giving back'. |

I'm clueless thanks Quoting: Anonymous Coward 50897018 Non profits, churches, charities, etc. are all tax scams. They pretend to want to help others but most of the donations go to pay high salaries to the leaders. Dont donate you money to any of these scams. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 71093653 United States 02/10/2016 10:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Apparently you people don't know what a non profit is. In simple terms, it's exactly what it says; an organization that fills a function, but doesn't operate to make a profit. That's all. They aren't all charitable organizations like you think; lots of groups are non-profits; I've worked for many over the years, as almost all my clients when I worked as a full-time IT professional and MVDB consultant were Non-profit orgs. Some of the clients we had over the years: Museum of Science and Industry Shedd Aquarium Adler Planetarium the Japan society American Federation of Teachers there were many more, that's just what comes to mind. None of these organizations make a profit for themselves. They have income, they have expenses, they have employees and they have payroll, but they don't make money beyond funding a charitable cause, providing services to their membership or the community at large, or making improvements to their operations, either way, they stay in the black, but don't have big profit margins like a business does. Public television is a good example of a typical non-profit: They provide a service to the community, and they get their money from donations, memberships, grants, and some government funding. They aren't in it to make a profit. However they still have expenses, as they need to pay their workers and crew, they need to pay licensing fees for the content they air (Shows like Downton Abbey, Sherlock and Doctor Who don't come cheap from the BBC)and a major portion of the money to pay for that come from charitable trusts, philanthropists that support the content they show, and of course "generous contributions from viewers like you". ...But they don't make a profit, as evidenced cy the fact that they don't show commercials (other than PSA's and ads for their programming) Only station on tv over air that doesn't show stupid product commercials, and the content actually makes you think, and spreads some culture. When it comes to working for a non-profit, in my case, I was making good money working for these organizations. Of course, I was being outsourced by them; I was working for an actual company, but I knew many people who worked for these non-profits, and they made a decent living. Just thought I'd share some of my experience on this subject. If you have a job opportunity to work for a non-profit, give it a shot. It's a job, and probably beats working at Taco Bell. |

TacoPants User ID: 70839381 United States 02/10/2016 11:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was an IT contract worker hired by the US Navy. The navy didn't operate for any profit but they were just a money gobbling machine. They threw money at things and people like crazy. Every september they would ask everyone to make a list of office stuff you wanted like $1000 chairs, laptops, servers, software and office amenities so they could get their entire budget spent. A LOT of the stuff ended up at peoples homes. If they didn't spend it this hear they didn't get it next year. A very depressing environment to work in. |
