I understand your criticism. Believers might reasonably have some empathy and pray that God might help Dawkins recover and come to believe in God. From the standpoint of those who might lament the "damage" Dawkins may have done through his anti-God evangelism, one could understand why his adversaries might welcome anything that impedes his work.
