Damn - Placer County checking in. EXTREME RAIN and wind. Already lost one tree. Horse and donkey stupidly standing out in the middle of this chaos. This is just f-in crazy. I honestly expect another tree to come down any time now. May even fall on my house since it is surrounded by trees.

It seems like the whole bottom fell out of the sky! There are flash flood and high wind warnings all up and down the coast! It is blowing and pouring! Thankfully we live half way up a hill and our trees are all scrub oaks... nothing tall enough to fall on the house! We got 3 inches in 24 hours and I just emptied the rain guage to see what we get tonight. And it is supposed to rain all day tomorrow and half of Monday! I hope everyone is doing ok and ready for lots of power outages!

Heavy Rains in Santa Cruz County Bring Flooding, Evacuations
The San Lorenzo River, Soquel Creek and Corralitos Creek all peaked Saturday with readings considered over their flood levels.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY - Parts of Santa Cruz County Sunday morning experienced flooding brought on by several inches of rain in the area during the past 24 hours.

Santa Cruz County Communication Manager Jason Hoppin said in a statement heavy rains caused three major waterways to surpass flood stages.

At one point Saturday evening, downtown Soquel received more than 1.5 inches of rain in one hour, according to the County.

The San Lorenzo River, with a flood level of 18 feet, peaked at 18.12 feet, Soquel Creek, with a flood level of 14.5 feet, peaked at 16.31 feet, and Corralitos Creek, with a flood level of 11.5 feet, peaked at 12.87 feet Sunday morning,
he flooding caused evacuations for residents living west of Porter Street along Soquel Creek, in Felton Grove and at Paradise Park along the San Lorenzo River.

There were several structures impacted by the flooding, and several county roads were closed due to mudslides, floods or downed trees.

Traffic accidents soar overnight as rain hits the Southland

Te storm that swept into the Southland on Saturday night created havoc on area roads, more than doubling the number of crashes from the same time period last week, a CHP officer said.

From 10 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday, there were 150 crashes, said Officer Francisco Villalobos, compared to 65 last week. . .

The storm is expected to dump several inches of rain in two waves. The second wave should hit Sunday night.

YUBA COUNTY, Calif. -
Rain-starved California has seen the skies open, leading to an unfamiliar sight: flooded streets. A strong El Nino weather pattern brought heavy rainfall to parts of California. The heavy rain is needed in Northern California as the area has been in a severe drought for the past several years. The rain is forecasted to continue falling today and into Monday.

Re: El Nino and a Pineapple Express in CA Over for now, Drought Conditions Improving In Northern/Central CA
The drought is over. It is all BS now. Sierras at 90-150% of normal snowfall, flowers in desert in a 100-year-bloom, hills green. BEFORE March storms come in! After this month we should be well over normal. But the rates going up by 100% and armed guards at the riverbed tell another story. Complete Control of Water is the goal, false drought and raised rates, plus no public access to any water source here in CA. Water IS the New Oil.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1626233

And perfect timing for TPTB, cuz now that oil is low in price, they can instead focus their efforts on figuring out new ways to get water out of the public's hands and into their new profit-and-control $cheme$.

Water is not a God-given right to use. Only CORPORATIONS should be allowed to control water. The CEO of Nestle told us so! [LMFAO]

Besides, look at the bright side, California. When the San Joaquin farmers go belly-up from the drought, our good friend Monsanto can buy up all that land for a fraction of its previous worth, and then plant ALL GMO crops in that Central Valley. Go Monsanto!

Winning!

How Much Rain? Here Are the Totals
MARCH 7, 2016

. . .Mount Umunhum, a peak variously reported at 3,486 and 3,488 feet in the Santa Cruz Mountains south of San Jose, got 10.89 inches of rain between 6 a.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Monday.. . .

That deluge in the Feather River watershed unleashed torrents that dumped 65 billion gallons of water into Lake Oroville, the state’s second-largest reservoir. Oroville storage grew by 200,000 acre-feet over the weekend, enough water for about 400,000 “average” California households for a year (or enough to submerge an acre of almonds, or a football field, to a depth of about 38 miles).

Storage in Shasta Lake, California’s biggest reservoir, increased by 203,000 acre-feet in the four-day period.

Below: Total rainfall for 66 locations in the region from northern Sonoma County through Santa Cruz County and east to Sacramento. Scroll down for entire list and click on column headings to rearrange by location or rainfall total. .
