Quoting: ~sound blind~ Pay starts off shitty (ha!) but we're thinking this is a Mike Rowe Dirty Jobs kinds of venture and with all the certifications he will have within 2 years it might be a good way to go! Any feedback from anyone here? Because let's be honest -- scuba diving in shit is no one's idea of a good time.... This would qualify him for a job as a "Solids Control Tech" in the oil industry. They separate the oil from the drill water and remove solids. The pay is around $20 to $25 per hour. 12 hour days. (when they are drilling.) That is what my husband has been doing for 6 years. Dirty work, but good money. The oil will eventually pick back up. I see the rigs here still stacked out just waiting. They wouldn't leave them here if they were not expecting to get them up and running again. I would recommend that he get the job, certifications etc. and if you move to the oil patch to live, be quick about it before all the housing is taken. ============================================================= Noticing Miracles Is My Hobby The Bible - When you carry the Bible, Satan has a headache, when you open it, he collapses, when he sees you reading it, he loses his strength, AND when you stand on the Word of God, Satan can't hurt you! |

But it is fucking gross. If you work at a sawmill, every surface is covered in sawdust. If you work at a coalmine, every surface is covered in coaldust. If you work at a shitplant, every surface is covered in shitdust. It gets into your skin... You end up smelling like shit even if you are just walking around the place. I guess it wouldn't be bad if you worked there, they have showers so you can wash up and change before you have to get in your car and go home. As a contractor I couldn't do that, so my car ended up smelling like turds for a month after working at the plant for a week. |

None of my coworkers experienced this, so maybe I'm just not built to work on or around equipment used to handle fecal matter. |
One Flush at a time User ID: 71263138 United States 03/13/2016 10:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OP Funny one day I could actually state a opinion of what I know on the Subject. I'm very happy your Husband has a Job when there aren't a lot of them out there. Sure, it's not pretty but he's working. Great! But he needs to get the Shot's to protect him from that type of environment. It is Dangerous.. You can only imagine the things that are going into the Sewer system. It's A to Z in all types of Nasty stuff being put into the drain. I had a friend that worked a small plant where he had picked up something (virus) that damn near killed him. I even looked into a Supervisors Job at one. They do make Damn Good $$ where I live.. 100K Up! Don't worry to much, just be aware and careful.. Congratulations to him.. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 49645343 United States 03/13/2016 10:30 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Worked as a contractor replacing severely corroded exhaust fan and aluminum ductwork at a local waste water treatment plant. It was pretty disgusting environment and I never got used to the smell. Sounds like you broke Rule #1 at the waste treatment facility, "Do Not Lick Your Lips". But, it is amazing what comes out after it goes through the UV unit, you can use that water to make coffee. |
