Not to dispute anything in this thread..... However, I will point out that my own mom, age 95... Has already recieved social security for 32 years after retiring at 62. Almost, she only ever worked for 20 years, I don't know how it works exactly....only that she has recieved for 12 years longer than she ever worked. Also, she has survived 2 husbands and is well set financially. She doesn't even spend the social security money, it goes right into education accounts for great grandchildren. She still drives and gardens, mows her own lawn etc. |

Yes, of course, because the job market is so booming. These people are certifiable. ON POINT. SS was never a benefit. ITs not a "gift" of government. Each and every working citizen PAID into that. It is, was, and always has been YOUR money. Stolen by the government. And these career politicians. Of course, THEY don't have to worry about that--theirs is lifelong, and immune to it. As far as I'm concerned that needs to stop retroactively! I wonder how they would like that? |

IOU now SS is going broke and they want to raise retirement age into the 70s+ Trump said he wouldn't change Soc. Sec. because there is enough in the account to last for something like 24(?) years. He said we would deal with it for now as there is plenty of time left for that, so not to worry, he'll find a way to keep it going. Neither Grandma nor Grandpa will sit in the dark eating cheese and crackers. I wish he would tell the truth about how the so-called "shortage" in funds came about. It was Clinton who borrowed the money to balance the budget, leaving those IOUs. There should have been imposed a lock box on those funds so they couldn't be appropriated for the wars, illegal immigrant subsidies, and the rest of Congress' pet projects that served no good purpose. It really is time for a sweeping change in the halls of Congress. |

That surplus money was interest they stoll if they had left it in the Social security separate from the government general fund, the social security would not be going broke. Every year we got a list of money put in and money earn on the account, that is the person's social security account and it not a give them something. Even a 95 year old account with interest add and not spent by the government it would have accumulated. Of course the interest in the last decade or so has been almost nothing. They could have done the same as the other retirement for government and professor retirement compound interest. One thing about this compound interest, it is the worse thing a group can do to another, usry at it highest. But that is the way some do business not legal in every state. Sorry I got a headache These are the times that tries men's and women's souls! May we come though it victorious! |

She still drives and gardens, mows her own lawn etc. Well, she is the exception. Many people are ill and disabled from their jobs or just sickness. From what the policians say, they want to make retirement at a later age. They expect people to work on a factory line till they are 82? I can't even watch a video of those factory lines, they make me so nervous, and yet people do it, for a WHOLE work day. I wouldn't last five minutes. How is someone going to do that at 82? Also, women used to live longer than men, but those statistics are changing. Women are dying younger now. Women like your mom are a rarity.. Plus, there are people like me, I worked and got credits for Soc. Sec., but then went into a job that had its own pension plan and didn't pay into SS, so now I don't have enough credits to draw on the money that I paid in, money that was taken out of my paycheck. It appears that some people do very well on Soc. Sec., like your mom... and others don't. I don't know ANY 92 year olds who mow their own yard. Your mother is extremely blessed. LOL I don't know what my point is here, I woke up wayyy too early this morning. I hope they don't cut back Soc. Sec., because it is NOT an entitlement, it was money deducted from people's paychecks. They keep using it and pension funds as a piggy bank and raiding them. There should be jail time for this kind of theft. |

Social security is based upon how much you put into it. Your Mom also has the benefit of receiving her husbands' social security as well. My Mom never got a penny extra because my dad was never on social security. |
