I've been war-gaming Russia's tactics in Ukraine and Syria for the past few years because of the fascinating power dynamics and often predict Putin's actions and counter-strategies.

Half of the Russian economy depends on exporting oil and natural gas to Europe, but Qatar and others also want to sell natural gas to Europe, which requires running a gas pipeline through Syria.

Obviously, this would create a 'price war', threaten Russia's economy, and diminish them as a world power.

However, as Russia's loyal ally, the Assad regime rejected Qatar's proposal.

Putin recognized the "Arab Spring" and Libyan intervention as a bigger scheme to cripple Russia's economy and seize their warm water port after overthrowing and replacing Assad with a puppet government willing to rubber-stamp the Qatar pipeline through Syria.

Overthrowing Assad would've jeopardized Russia's only warm-water naval base at that time (Tartus) and diminished their reach and status as a world power, that's why Putin made his sudden move for Crimea: gaining another warm water naval base (Sevastopol).

It is actually pretty crazy. He pled guilty, has declared himself a "warrior for the babies"...I mean he is not denying anything at all. He even said there was no reason for a trial because he is guilty. He has requested to represent himself on numerous occasions and has been denied. In fact, the judge ended up ordering a mental competency evaluation to see if he is even competent to represent himself as the shooter would not stop with the courtroom outbursts about it. I think he has had some type of an outburst every single appearance now.

Turns out the lawsuit appears to be a hoax submitted by the same guy that made the hoax Uber lawsuit a few days prior.
