Just got back from putting my laundry in the dryer in our laundry room and you could smell the smoke on the strong southerly wind that's blowing right now.

Crews battling wildfires in Clark & Meade counties

"The Clark County Sheriff's Office said their fire is located at County Road J and County Road 2. No word on if homes or other structures are threatened.

A spokesman for Meade County says their wildfires started along Meade and Ford County line. That fire line continues to grow and move toward northwest."

Kansas National Guard Black Hawk helicopters to aid wildfire effort

"Two Black Hawk helicopters from the Kansas National Guard will fly missions on Saturday to support firefighting efforts in south-central Kansas.

The Kansas Adjutant General's Office said each Black Hawk is manned by a four-person crew and will be equipped with a 660 gallon Bambi bucket, which can scoop water from local water sources to dump on the flames."

Anderson Creek wildfire still burning
The biggest fire in the state continues to be the one in Barber and Comanche counties.

"The Kansas Forest Service says the Anderson Creek fire which crossed into Kansas from Oklahoma earlier this week is the largest in state history and one of the largest ever in the U.S.

. . .

The KLA is raising funds to help ranchers replace fencing, which he estimates covered tens of thousands of miles."

It's raining in kakeland, I wonder how the smoke and ashes effect the weather. I wonder if any biochemicals have been released by tptb over wichita using the smoke as a medium.

Got 3" of snow here in West Wichita. I see on Facebook that they are reporting 3 1/2" in the wildfire area. Still looking for an update on the latest conditions there.

"Some of you are calling it an "Easter Miracle." 3.5" of snow fell in Barber County where wildfires have ravaged the area. The moisture should help crews battle the blaze.

Thank you Melissa Ricker for sending this photo!"

Latest update I'm seeing is from around midnight, before the snow:

UPDATE: Barber Co. wildfire 31 percent contained

"The fight against the Barber County wildfire continues to progress as emergency managers say it's now 31 percent contained. That's up from 15 percent on Friday after a very windy day with several large flare-ups.

Saturday was much calmer with no large fires. Smaller flare ups mainly sparked along the deeper canyons."

. . .

Emergency managers tell KAKE News that thankfully the perimeter of the fire in Barber County was protected today. The total number of acres burnt in the county remains at around 270,000."

Snow helps Kansas wildfire containment, but problem areas remain

"Snow that fell on Easter Sunday has helped contain a wildfire in Barber County. However, some problems areas remain.

An official with the Barber County Sheriff's Office said the snow helped on grasses and light fuels, but the snow was unable to reach some drainage areas and canyons.

. . .

There is no official update on containment of the fire."

this is part of the yellowstone preburn, like fire breaks.oklahoma and the fires last year.if its within 700 miles of yellowstone then its a preburn.

the drought part is to help adjust the techtonic plates to set off yellowstone.

Barber County wildfire up to 81-percent contained
Temporary Flight Restriction placed on area surrounding wildfire area

"A fire that's burned for days in south central Kansas is now 81-percent contained in Barber County and about 90-percent contained overall. In all, almost 400,000 acres has burned in the Anderson Creek wildfire, the bulk of which is in Barber County

. . .

'Obviously with the snow, it's a great deal of help, but this is not over for us,' Wood said.

Officials are calculating the cost of damage. With the wind picking back up, they say conditions will be dangerous moving forward.

So far, the cost in combating the Anderson Creek fire has reached more than $1 million, not including costs for Barber County crews. The total does include the Black Hawks and some landowner losses."
