Don't brine it or pamper it at all. Just stud it with cloves and pour some kind of juice, glaze or A.1. Sauce over it. Then face down in the roasting pan.

What kind? Whole ham (bone in) really is my favorite next day ham fried in the morning for eggs and hashbrowns. Butt end or Shank end? I guess it depends on what kind of fatness you are seeking. I agree plain and simple works the best.

All ham is good, because it's pork. Doesn't matter the cut, but bone in is always tastier. Don't forget about those few little bites of sweet bone marrow. The best thing about leftover ham, is the mustard and lettuce sammiches the following days.

Save that ham bone for a pot of red beans.

I knew a guy that put his ham in the slow cooker over night "to make it tender like bbq"

It was a laughable mess that tasted like shit.

Most people don't realize that your average store bought ham is already cooked.

Sounds like even if someone bought a raw, uncured ham. Then put it in a crock pot over night, it'd turn into an unrecognizable mess of gloop anyways.
