Private insurance was much cheaper 8-9 years ago. My current plan that I was told never ever leave, is about 1/3 the current ACA cost. Was about the same cost ratio (1/3) when ACA first came out. A more sick person should pay more than a healthy person, there is a little incentive to stay healthier. Other forms of insurance charge more if you get in car accidents or similar things.
