How to convince someone not to have plastic / cosmetic surgery?
Any arguments and links against plastic surgery of any kind (liposuction, eye, breasts, botox...)are welcome.

Re: How to convince someone not to have plastic / cosmetic surgery?
and why not may i ask?
there is no problem in fixing a tooth that looks out of place. no problem in removing unwanted hair. not to mention applying make up to make one look better. i could go on and on about other advancement in test tube babies, and mothers and fathers who can not have children. now if the technology in science has reached a point that it is possible to fix a bent nose then why not? sure... in any circumstances there will be abuse by many in order to fulfill their fantasies but that aside i do not see any reason as to why advancement in science can not be used for those who wish to use it. My wife is a 32a cup and very flat chested. I love her as she is but when she mentioned that she would like someday to have an op to make her breasts larger i did not complain not did i encourage her. i simply said that i would support her should she find the need to do so. Her points to me were: She can not find any clothes that fits her. they are either too big at the top and tight at the bottom or vise versa. She would like to be more balanced in her looks and perhaps one or two sizes bigger would help her.It would also help her to feel more like a woman. this conversation was brought up nearly 5 years ago and one of the resons why she has not gone through with it is the safty issue. As yet we do not have enough info on saftry but once we are confident that the safty issue has been resolved then i do not see any reason why she should not go ahead. One of out firends suffered from very bad case of spots on her face. She took advantage of the new science and now she is very very happy. There are many people who use cosmetic surgery to offer them a false sense of confidence and that is an abuse becuse it would only mask the pshycological problems. these are the cases where i would advice the person to seek help rather than an op.

That would take a very long time. I will be happy to go back 10 years. That will take nearly 10 years to do.

My ex-wife was a beautiful woman... but she had the typical vanity and insecurities. She wanted me to pay for fake boobs, but that's where I drew the line. I'm not a boob man, and I didn't give a damn if she had a 30 or 32 (at best) inch chest. I loved my wife, but that fateful decision was the last straw. I think she knew it was ending, and was just trying to hit me up for one last thing. She thought I was a sap. Maybe I was... but who's laughing now, ya bitch? Have a nice life!

Re: How to convince someone not to have plastic / cosmetic surgery?
I watch 90210 every so often. It's a show about plastic surgeons in Beverly Hills.
I have never been happy with my body. It is just okay. I am and have always been 5'5", 115 lbs. My breasts are small, B cup, which a lot of men do not consider enough. They want breasts that flop around and have enlarged aureolas. I knew a woman with these type of breasts. She had a different lover every weekend, but she was non-orgasmic and always had a yeast infection, so few men ever came back for seconds.
There are many procedures for breast enlargement, but the Beverly Hills doctors always cut off the nipple and remove breast tissue to create a pocket for the implant. About half the women regain sensation in their nipples. Half do not. Would I trade a bigger breast for loss of sensation? No. The big, fake breast has nothing whatsoever to do with female pleasure. It is a gimmick to attract/arouse men; but most of these women use men to acquire money, nothing else.

if that is the case, then no one should have their teeth done or close a gap in a tooth. how about a extra large nose that can be corrected by an op? How aboutr those children who have their ears sticking out and get bullied at school? with a simple op their problems can be solved. science and technology will offer us many other things in the future. the problem is not the advancement in science. It is the abuse that some people resort to. Anyone remember when test-tube babies first started? many called it a sin against God and many claimed it is bad and yet today there is no problem helping a mother who is having difficulty in having a child.

Bullshit. Again, balance in life. There's a big difference between braces, and cutting your body open to insert foreign objects and shooting a toxin into your bloodstream to "freeze" wrinkles.

Self esteem does not come from a scalpel. Studies have shown that there is a higher rate of suicide among women who have had breast implants. Indicating that there self-esteems and insecurites were not cured with the boobs.

Google it.

And sometimes, the bullies make us stronger, more determined, and many a man and woman have used the bricks thrown at them to build amazing things-they enhance the other things life bestowed on them-like brains. The kid who has an operation to fix his ears will only be teased later in life by something else-and then what, keep on having surgeries? You'll never please the masses. Accept yourself.

Tell them it increases their chances of suicide.

Re: How to convince someone not to have plastic / cosmetic surgery?
Stop being critical.

If this person wants it and understands that science can offer improvement - sometimes great improvement - but clinical perfection is not in our grasp for most patients - then just encourage her/him.

You don't know how they feel or why. Trust me, a facelift can lift your sou and your life as well as your aging face!! I know, I've had two of them and won't hesitate to have a third.

Would you want to look like an old wreck when you could look like your still young and viable? No? Well neither does your friend. Help the friend make sure he/she has a reputable surgeon who has done dozens of the operations your friend is having. Talk to former patients. Find out their experiences. Check with your state medical board for problems or lawsuits against the doc. If there are a lot of them, then find someone else and fast. Bad docs tend to have problems and lawsuits. Not everyone who graduates from Medical School is a great surgeon. So make sure your friend is going to someone reputable and experienced.

Board Certification is important. The American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (ASPS) is the"big board" and the doc should be a member in good standing of that board. There are other boards that "sound" similar but are not in fact as strict about training and credentials.

AS THE DOC ABOUT BOARD CERTIFICATION. He or she may be boarded in "surgery" but NOT IN PLASTIC SURGERY. BIG DIFFERENCE! ASK. LEARN. Make good decisions. Do not pic a doc based on price alone. If you're tight for money, the best docs will lower their fees a bit rather than see you go to a 2nd or 3rd rate surgeon. My big name, high priced plastic surgeon has been know to do a facelift on a waitress or hostess in a coffee shop - not because she could afford his society prices, but because she was nice, wanted the surgery, and asked if he could lower his normally over-thirty-thousand-dollar fees. I know of a couple he did for five grand. That was all they had and to them it was far more than some society broad paying him 50 grand.

So ask. These docs are often decent people.
The best ones, anyway...

If you get lipo, you won't gain fat back in that area. However, if you do gain weight after lipo, it will go to other areas and it will really look disproportionate.
