Even without foreign hostilities we'd be in trouble.

A big solar flare would put us in difficult straits and leave us vulnerable, aside from any deliberate attack.

The United States government has refused to take measures to harden the civilian electrical grid, even at the urging of many Congressmen and Senators for the last 2 administrations.

The military systems appear to be somewhat hardened, especially underground facilities. Government sources supposedly state that to do this for the rest of the country would cost around 3 billion dollars and apparently we are not worth it.

To restore the entire grid would cost over 3 trillion and would take at least 10 years, if ever--to fully restore electrical service to the whole country.

I think our greatest weakness is our electric grid and the tragedy that would occur if it failed .
