Eastern has multiple dorms that are vacant, ones that were newly renovated. It has rumors of closing, though the school is sending parents reassurance letters. My student is employed there and her supervisors say things don't look good. Southern is cancelling programs, like their ag program for which they have a good reputation. Students in the middle of these majors will be out of luck. They are in the process of cutting back right now for the next semester. My daughter's advisor told her they don't even know for sure what's getting cut. A teacher advised some of the kids to get their degree and get out as quickly as possible. I am not surprised about Eastern as they serve a high number of kids receiving financial aid. Southern on the other hand is a complete shock. I have also read articles about Northern getting ready to close as well. Il State schools aren't doing very well, which shouldn't be a surprise given the condition of the state itself. No links to info as I am giving it to you as the schools have communicated to me, the parent, or to my kids. |
